Job Output


Reporting to the Plant Manager, the EHS Specialist is responsible for providing technical guidance relating to the Environmental, Health and Safety of the plant.

The EHS Specialist will also be responsible for developing and implementing the facility's safety management systems. This includes hazard identification, risk assessments, mitigation planning and project implementation, development of procedures, compliance auditing, and compliance reporting.

Additionally, the EHS Specialist will also be tasked with the design and management of capital projects and database.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Partners with manufacturing leaders, facilitating the maintenance of safe, healthy and environmentally friendly working conditions in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Labour guidelines.
  • Partners with AWI OPS Manager with integration into AWI EHS systems and leading indicators.
  • Trains and educates employees in the required safety procedures, such as PPE, LOTO, ergonomics, and environmental concerns such as waste and hazardous materials handling.
  • Leads Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Actively participates as a member of the plant to drive resolution of common cause and special cause issues that negatively impact safety, quality, cost, and productivity.
  • Provides technical assistance to the facility on a proactive basis in terms of environmental, health, and safety.
  • Establishes annual safety calendar.
  • Owns accident/incident investigation and case/situation management as needed, recommending corrective actions and managing to completion.
  • Manages facility's hazardous and waste programs.
  • Identifies and executes improvements in the plant's environmental/safety systems and procedures.
  • Leads, manages, and facilitates completion of hazard identification and risk assessments.
  • Ensures that process safety related documentation for all identified hazards is developed and maintained including SDS documentation.
  • Identifies safety training needs and provides training through inhouse resources or external consultancy.
  • Safely executes capital projects per agreed cost, schedule, and performance metrics.
  • Transfers technical knowledge where appropriate to elevate organization understanding and performance.
  • Ensures compliance with facility environmental permit or environmental compliance requirements.
  • Serves as an oncall site contact when needed.
EH&S Compliance - In conjunction with the Operations Managers and Local/County governing representatives, ensures compliance in the following areas:
