Description

is hiring a Climate Campaigner to play a key role in scaling the SAFE Cities campaign in Canada: working with a seven-person team to grow and support decentralized networks of community groups and municipal leaders passing local government policies that phase out fossil fuels and fast track clean, equitable energy solutions for all.

In particular, SAFE Cities is currently focused on catalyzing the shift to all-electric buildings powered by efficient heat pumps rather than polluting methane gas.

So far, most of our Canada organizing effort has been focused in BC, but over the next year we hope to grow our networks in Ontario, the Maritimes and beyond.

If you thrive on building welcoming, impact-focused network spaces, love crafting smart strategies to build power and create real-world change, have a deep commitment to climate justice, and are excited to get into the details of everything from municipal policy to media strategy and digital organizing tools, then this might be the perfect job for you

About :

is a nonprofit environmental organization working to create a world where respect for people and the environment comes first.

Our campaigns challenge destructive corporate and governmental practices, demand accountability, and create solutions that support all of us - and the environment and climate upon which we depend.

Stand's strategic approach and fierce determination have yielded extraordinary results:

Since 2000, we've helped secure the protection of millions of acres of wilderness, shifted billions of dollars of corporate purchasing toward responsible options, and transformed the environmental practices of more than 100 major U.S.

corporations. Stand operates in Canada and the United States.

Stand recognizes and respects the sovereignty of First Nations and tribes, as well as the rights of Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities.

These communities are often first and most directly impacted by environmental pollution and climate change, and they provide critical leadership in developing solutions.

The Position

Reporting to the Senior Campaigns Director, this position will work closely with the rest of the SAFE Cities team to support local community advocates and municipal leaders in passing policies that prevent or stop fossil fuel companies from putting profits over community health and justice.

The SAFE Cities Campaigner will also help grow our community in Canada, with a particular focus on reaching and supporting more advocates in Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

In addition to convening network meetings, the campaigner will help develop resources for community advocates and local government leaders (including toolkits, template policies, case studies and training materials), play a role in mobilizing our online community using digital tools, and help raise the profile of this work by supporting strategic media moments and powerful online storytelling.

This is a full-time position.

Salary is commensurate with experience and adjusted based on location, but will likely be within the range of $67,275 to $87,750 CAD.

offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package including excellent health and dental insurance, 3 weeks paid vacation in the first year (increases in future years), 20 paid holidays, 4.5-day work week, and a 3-month paid sabbatical after 7 years continuous full-time employment.

We also encourage employees to make use of our mindfulness sessions and professional development training opportunities that we offer.

This position will ideally be based in Vancouver (where we have a hub office) or Toronto (where we have a growing number of staff).

Remote locations in Canada will be considered. All staff can expect to travel periodically for in-person team meetings, retreats, and work events.

Position Responsibilities

  • With support from SAFE Cities team members, implement a strategy to scale the campaign in Canada, particularly in Ontario and Atlantic Canada
  • Recruit, train, inspire and remotely support volunteers and community groups in the SAFE Organizing Network, who are working to implement policies that halt or limit fossil fuel infrastructure expansion
