    McMaster Children's Hospital, located in Hamilton's west-end, is the second largest children's hospital in Canada.     Position Summary

    The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pediatric Nephrology team is involved with the coordination of comprehensive care for children, youth within the hospital and in the community. The team serves patients with Nephrology diseases and diagnoses, ranging in ages from early childhood through early adulthood. The RN provides expert care to patients throughout all stages of their illness including diagnosis, treatment, potential dialysis (peritoneal and/or hemodialysis) and transplant. The RN acts as a specialized resource to patients and families, working with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

    Schedule Work Hours

    Monday to Friday; days; potential evenings and weekends.

    Qualifications
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
  • Current BCLS certification and ongoing re-certification mandatory
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience (within the last 5 years) in a pediatric tertiary care center
  • Recent experience with primary nursing in an outpatient setting an asset
  • Sound knowledge of pediatric illnesses, symptoms and related interventions
  • Demonstrated experience in the care of pediatric patients with nephrology diagnoses, and knowledge of nephrology diseases, presentations, assessments and treatments
  • Demonstrated competence supporting patients with Peritoneal Dialysis
  • Experience with Hemodialysis an asset
  • Demonstrated expertise in supporting patients transitioning from the pediatric to adult care setting
  • Experience in development of education and programs and materials with the healthcare team for children and their families
  • Demonstrated skills in physical and psychosocial assessment specific to the Pediatric nephrology population
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement
  • Demonstrated leadership within a healthcare team
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstration of clinical expertise in pediatric psychosocial assessments, pediatric growth and development, critical thinking and problem solving
  • Demonstration and knowledge in the role of community liaison and access to supports for the children and families
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and also collaborative with a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to provide health teaching for pediatric patients and their families, specific to the needs of the clinic population
