Position Title:
Y Mind Group Facilitator


Location:
Program delivery at Bettie Allard YMCA. Other duties will take place at Robert Lee YMCA and remotely.


Terms:
Fixed Term, Part-Time


Hours: 21 hours per week


Schedule:

Three 7 hour shifts per week. Tuesdays 10:30AM - 6:30PM, Wednesdays 12:30PM - 8:30PM, Thursdays 8:30AM - 4:30PM.

Additional work when programs are not running may be available 8:30AM - 4:30PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

  • Schedule may change to meet program and operational needs.

Start Date:
Fall cycle delivery starts September 2023. Availability required for paid online training during August or September, ahead of program delivery.


End Date:
March , with possibility for extension dependent on funding


Rate:
$30.00 per hour

Supervisor, Y Mind Teen & Youth


Nature and Scope:


The YMCA Y Mind Teen and Y Mind Youth programs are early intervention, evidence-based programs which support young people aged who experience symptoms of mild to moderate anxiety to learn coping strategies and connect with peers in a safe and encouraging group environment.

The Y Mind Teen program for 13 to 18 year olds meets for 1.5 hours weekly for 7 weeks. The Y Mind Youth program for 18 to 30-year-olds meets for 2.5 hours weekly for 7 weeks.

Two Y Mind facilitators are responsible for the intake and assessment of 12 group participants, co-facilitation of the program, and delivery of the program.

Facilitators are required to deliver virtually from home if for any reason, in-person programming is not possible.


The Y Mind Facilitator will co-lead this psychoeducation and support group with one other facilitator to help participants learn about their anxiety and discover helpful coping tools through creative activities and discussions grounded in mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).


Reporting to the Y Mind Teen & Youth Supervisor, the Y Mind Facilitator will work collaboratively with other staff and participants.

The Y Mind Facilitator is responsible for screening and onboarding of new participants and delivering Y Mind Youth and Y Mind Teen program sessions at the Bettie Allard YMCA.

If program participants require additional support, the Y Mind Facilitator will provide appropriate community referrals.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Complete all Y Mind administration duties to a high standard.
  • Support with marketing and promotion of the program to young people and potential referrers in the local area.
  • Intake of program applicants at information sessions.
  • Cofacilitate group sessions and create a warm, welcoming, and safe group environment.
  • Maintain a strengthsbased approach that inspires participants to engage in selfdevelopment & change.
  • Support applicants and participants to contact appropriate referrals to community agencies when necessary.
  • Organization of data for evaluation of program.
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/ policies/ procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Degree in mental health field or counselling related field.
  • Experience leading group psychoeducation and support groups.
  • Experience working with young people aged with mild to moderate anxiety.
  • Understanding of mindfulness and knowledge of mindfulness practices.
  • Experience with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) preferred.
  • Experience conducting intakes.
  • Ability to recognize mental health signs and symptoms beyond the mild to moderate spectrum and provide referrals to appropriate medical and community agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
