The bigger picture

We are looking for a confident and energetic self-starter, with a passion for data and leadership to come on board as our Team Leader, Data Governance.

In this role, you will lead the process through which data governance is managed, trusted, and matured within Conexus.

This will include working with the Data Governance Council (DGC) in driving the management, and maintenance of a data governance program, which includes a framework, strategic plan, and implementation roadmap.

You will advocate, support, and lead Conexus through the maturation of our data governance function, directly supporting our aspirations of becoming a data-driven organization and improving our overall data maturity.

How you'll be spending your time

Leading the establishment, management, and maintenance of a scalable and operational data governance framework that leverages best practices, tools, and tactics in governing data ownership, management, classification, sharing, privacy and security as well as data and analytics overall
Leading and facilitating the execution of a data governance strategic plan, that leverages the aboveestablished data governance framework and incorporates a data governance implementation roadmap that includes strategic priorities for the ongoing maturation of data governance organizationally
Defining roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the organization's principal data assets (ie Member Data)
Facilitating the establishment, in, and approval of data related policies and processes identified through the data governance strategic plan, working collaboratively with internal (the Data and Analytics team) and external teams (ex: Enterprise Architecture, Security, Risk and Compliance, Privacy, Audit, and Business Areas.)
Defining indicators of performance and quality metrics, ensuring compliance with datarelated policies, standards, regulations, roles, and responsibilities
Ensuring that data governance best practices are applied to the data environment by conducting insightful data impact assessments that identify and record data risks, as well as consulting with leaders from external teams to build remediation strategies to reduce data risks
Advocating, supporting, leading, and educating Conexus and its leadership and management teams on the 'art of the possible', i.e. show how data governance can support datadriven decision making and bring real business value to the organization.
Identifying and managing risks and opportunities within the credit union's and the members' risk appetite

The way people describe you

You are an expert in the knowledge of data governance, related methodologies, best practices, and standards with excellent facilitation and negotiation skills.

You are also a self-starter with demonstrated organization, communication and problem solving skills.

The experience you bring

Relevant postsecondary education in data, computing science, business, economics, operations research, engineering, statistics, data governance, or other technical disciplines
5 years' relevant experience in data, data governance, change management, and/or project management
Significant experience in establishing and managing data governance programs and execution of related strategic plans
2 years' relevant experience managing and leading technical resources
Results oriented thinker, with the ability to influence and manage complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
A certification in data governance or data management would be considered an asset (ex: DAMA Certified Data Management Professional or ICCP Data Governance & Stewardship Professional)
