Who we are:


The Office of Climate Change and Energy Management (OCCEM) has the lead role in enabling the Region of Peel to respond to climate change to create a low-carbon, resilient Community for Life, through principles of shared-leadership, balance, transparency and innovation.


OCCEM provides the expertise, knowledge, strategy and tools to enable regional services and community partners to embed climate change and energy management principles into practice while achieving divisional goals and organizational outcomes.


What you will do in this role:

  • Act as the key contact for the Energy Management Systems Program (EMSP) and the administrator for the Schneider Electric and Energy Hippo software in support of EMSP objectives and broader divisional goals that align with service outcomes for Corporate Governance
  • Responsible for the accuracy and functionality of an energy management system for all Regional facilities, including hardware, software and communications of digital networks used to connect hardware and software
  • Provides strategic or technical advice for energy initiatives, liaises with external software hosts while performing a consulting role with Energy Finance for the CDIT/Kofax and Energy Insight software
  • Advise on the development and implementation of services, processes, and objectives of the EMSP
  • Undertake field visits to energy meter locations to oversee, as appropriate, meter installation/changes and perform information downloads or onsite diagnosis of reported or analyzed issues of realtime energy data
  • Identify and analyze real time energy metering data for accuracy, specifically irregularities versus utility billed data and review discrepancies with Energy Finance
  • Update EMSP processes, procedures and integration maps after energy management system modification or upgrade
  • Annually review energy management systems trends, risks and opportunities and provide recommendations on how to optimize this Regional investment
  • Compile, analyze and organize energy meter data and related information and support the creations of reports, letters and correspondence needed for the submission of Ontario regulated energy consumption and greenhouse gas reporting
  • Provide responses on behalf of the EMSP regarding routine and nonroutine internal and external requests for energy, water and environmental information (e.g. temperature, humidity, etc)
  • Conduct daily, desktop monitoring of the energy network system to ensure realtime energy metering data and information are properly received and recorded into the Schneider Electric and Energy Hippo databases; analyze and resolve any data gaps or irregularities in the trend to ensure completeness
  • Provide informed evidence based energy metering advice to OCCEM Advisors and internal clients for monitoring and verification of various initiatives, including energy projects, telecommunication services, and submetered loads
  • Prepare and conduct appropriate training for new employees and coop students on the energy management software
  • Develop, monitor and run reports on the operating and capital budget and expenses for the EMSP cost centre and related capital projects (e.g. new meter installation)
  • Update, analyze and run monthly and triannual reports for the Divisional operational and capital budgets to support teamwide budget planning and reporting
  • Liaise with internal communications team and support updates to internal and external Regional website regarding EMSP or OCCEM program content

What the role requires:


  • University degree in relevant technical discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science or a related field
  • 5 years related work experience
  • Good understanding of climate change science and impacts as they relate to mitigation action
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills/Abilities:


  • Demonstrated experience in vendor management
  • Experience with managing capital project budgets and developing business cases
  • Familiarity with Energy Industry legislation, policy and business sector practice
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative taking to proactively problem solve, advance innovation and identify strategic business solutions
  • Proven research and analytical skills to identify energy management system problems and provide strategic or technical recommendations
  • Working knowledge of computer networking and communication systems (e.g. switch configuration, modem configuration, TCP/IP protocols and communication protocols)
