The Region of Peel's Human Resources division is seeking a Specialist, Employee Engagement who will be responsible for developing, implementing, and providing expert advice on the organization's employee recognition program and Your Voice program.

The Your Voice program is about listening to employees by gathering and using their feedback to inform decision making and support Regional programs and initiatives.

You will also support and provide advice on Human Resources communications.


What you will do in this role:

  • Leads and implements various employee engagement activities under the Your Voice program, including ongoing How are you doing? employee surveys
  • Leads the ongoing management of operational processes of the Your Voice program
  • Provides recommendations to leaders across the organization on the Your Voice program
  • Further enhances the Your Voice program to realize future program objectives, including listening to employees across their full employee life cycle
  • Leads and implements various elements of the employee recognition program including the Peel Celebrates Employee Awards, Employee Appreciation Month, and long service recognition
  • Leads and implements workplan for the annual Take Our Kids to Work Day event
  • Leads the ongoing management of operational processes of the employee recognition program
  • Provides expert advice to Human Resources leaders and employees in the areas of employee engagement, and communications and change management
  • Serves as direct liaison with corporate communications to support Human Resources program communications using various formats, including leadership messaging, intranet articles, etc.
  • Provides work direction and guidance to other Strategic Integration and Workforce Intelligence team members related to employee engagement
  • Prepares complex reports (including council reports), various types of correspondence, materials, and presentations for members of the Human Resources Leadership team and other stakeholders
  • Researches and prepares briefing notes and critical analysis documents for key initiatives, specifically in the area of employee engagement
  • Prepares proposals/quotes/information, and monitors contracts and payments as required

What the role requires:


  • University degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field with at least 5 years of work related experience in employee feedback, employee recognition. An equivalent combination of education/experience will be considered
  • Expert knowledge of employee feedback systems, tools and techniques
  • Expert knowledge of employee recognition systems, tools and techniques
  • Maintains knowledge of best practices and trends in employee engagement and employee recognition, including maintaining contacts with other municipalities and comparators regarding recognition and survey practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using project management and change management principles

Skills/Abilities:


  • Effective communication skills with the ability to write clearly including writing content for the web
  • Ability to provide specialized advice to support to Strategic Integration and Workforce Intelligence Advisors, and the Human Resources leadership team
  • Ability to conceptualize, develop recommendations to support decision making, and structure complex problems
  • Ability to organize resources, establish priorities, goals and objectives for operations and projects to work within time constraints
  • Demonstrated flexibility and able to thrive in an environment with frequent and competing deadlines and multiple tasks
  • Excellent verbal communication skills including the ability to present to large audiences and facilitate meetings
  • Ability to develop coalitions, partnerships or collaborative relationships with internal and external contacts to achieve program and project objectives
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to work with senior leaders, other departments, staff and stakeholders
  • Strong research skills and critical thinking skills
