    Wage Benefits :


    • Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.


    • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays.

    Role Responsibilities

    Join our dynamic team as a Wildlife Technician, where you will play a crucial role in cormorant fieldwork and data collection under the guidance of our Senior Wildlife Biologist. You will be at the forefront of implementing fieldwork assignments, managing data collection, and conducting lab work to support our wildlife program in the northeast. Your responsibilities will include participating in safety planning and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of collected data. With activities ranging from field surveys to sample preparation, you will have the opportunity to contribute to wildlife programs in the northeast while gaining valuable experience in wildlife management. As part of our Wildlife Stewardship team, you will assist in delivering our 2024 cormorant field program. You will be responsible for conducting population inventories, monitoring species distribution, oiling eggs and participating in other wildlife management initiatives in the region. Your role will involve hands-on tasks such as collecting data, managing equipment, and operating various tools and instruments. You will collaborate closely with our team to ensure the effective implementation of program components and contribute to the overall success of both our cormorant program and other wildlife management programs in the region. In addition to fieldwork and research activities, you will play a key role in program administration, supporting data entry, quality control, and logistical coordination.     Qualifications

    Required :

    • A 2-year diploma in sciences or in a related field

    • Plus 3 years of related experience is required

    • Valid Driver's License (Class 5)

    • Current First Aid certification (CPR Level C) Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered based on :

    • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or

    • 1 year of experience for 1 year education Assets :

    • Proficient in data collection and management, with experience in data entry and database management.

    • Comprehensive understanding of fish and wildlife resource management techniques, including familiarity with various species common to Alberta.

    • Skilled in wildlife survey techniques, particularly bird surveys.

    • Knowledgeable in remote camera and ARU monitoring techniques, with the ability to leverage these assets effectively.

    • Familiarity with Alberta Fish and Wildlife policies, procedures, and legislation, along with a sound understanding of Occupational Health & Safety standards.

    • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, enabling effective interaction with diverse stakeholders.

    • Proficient in computer operation and software applications, including GIS, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint, with additional experience in ArcGIS.

    • Exceptional bird identification skills and experience in observational surveys.

    • Proficient in data entry and management, ensuring accuracy and integrity throughout the process.

    • Ability to organize technical data efficiently, facilitating data management and analysis.

    • Proficient in conducting QA/QC of data, ensuring high-quality outputs and reliable results.

    • Effective communication skills with departmental staff, stakeholders, and the public, fostering positive relationships and transparent communication.

    • Skilled in conducting resource risk assessments, enabling informed decision-making and strategic planning.

    • Proficient in using specialized fisheries and wildlife equipment.

    • Ability to operate various field equipment, including 4x4 vehicles, quads, and boats, ensuring smooth field operations and data collection activities.
