Job Summary:

The Physics Department at UFV currently offers Physics Honours, Major, and Minor programs within the BSc.

The department also offers a 1st year engineering transfer program and a diploma program in Engineering Physics (specialising in Mechatronics), as well as a few service courses (such as algebra-based physics, and astronomy) to other program students.

The department is seeking qualified applicants for a Limited Term Appointment (LTA) during the academic year.

This LTA is for a 12-month appointment (August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024) and will involve the design, preparation and teaching of 1st year and possibly higher level physics, engineering and astronomy labs in addition to some service to the Department and University.

Specifically, we are interested in applicants who are able to teach all or most of the following labs:


Phys 100:
Introductory Physics I


Phys 101:


Introductory General Physics:
Mechanics and Fluids


Phys 105:
Heat, Waves, and Optics


Phys 111:
Mechanics


Phys 112:
Electricity and Magnetism


Astr 103:
Astronomy: The Solar System


Astr 104:
Stars, Galaxies, and the Cosmos


Phys 221:
Intermediate Mechanics


Duties of Limited Term faculty fall within Article 18.2 (Teaching Faculty Duties) of the Collective Agreement, specifically the Teaching and Service components.


Qualifications:

A MSc (PhD preferred) in physics, engineering, or closely related field.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Strong technical hands-on skills.

Experience in circuit design and programing skills is highly desirable.

Experience in designing and writing first year experiments and other scholarly activities is an asset.

Strong communication, leadership, and service skills.

Strong ability to work independently and in a team, excellent organizational skills, and initiative.
