Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will oversee day-to-day accounting operations for the franchisor and corporate entities. This role combines strong financial reporting expertise with process improvement and cross-functional collaboration to support a growing national brand. It's an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys ownership, building scalable processes, and working closely with leadership.

This role is designed as a key succession position within the finance team, with the opportunity to grow into the Financial Controller role as the organization continues to expand.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close

Own monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of all GL accounts and reconciliations.
Manage intercompany transactions and multi-entity consolidations.
Lead year-end audit and external accountant relationships.

Corporate & Franchise Accounting

Oversee full-cycle accounting for corporate locations.
Monitor store P&Ls, labour, food cost, and operational KPIs.
Partner with Operations to identify trends and opportunities.
Assist in budgeting and forecasting for corporate stores.
Maintain and reconcile franchise royalty and fee reporting.
Support franchise sales reporting and dashboards.
Assist with franchise financial analysis and benchmarking.

Compliance & Remittances

Prepare and file GST returns and support other regulatory filings.
Assist with payroll, WCB, and government remittances.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

Systems & Process Improvement

Maintain and optimize NetSuite accounting workflows.
Support development of Power BI dashboards and reporting tools.
Identify and implement process improvements and documentation.
Strengthen internal controls and finance procedures.

Planning & Analysis Support

Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting.
Assist leadership with financial modelling and analysis.
Provide insights to support strategic decision-making.

Team Support

Mentor and support the Accounting Coordinator.

Qualifications

Required

CPA designation (or actively pursuing).
5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite experience is a strong asset).
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical mindset.

Preferred

Experience in franchising, retail, restaurant, or multi-location environments.
Experience working with dashboards or BI tools (Power BI an asset).
Experience supporting multi-entity or consolidated financials.
