Our client is now looking for a highly motivated, hardworking
Purchasing Agent, who is interested in great advancement opportunities.

If you have hands-on supply chain and production experience and have worked with procurement, and you're looking to grow with a leader in the maritime transportation industry, then you may be our next Purchasing Agent.


Purchasing Agent


The Purchasing Agent reports to the Production/Program Manager and will be expected to develop and manage the supply chain for our client's seabed drilling and sampling machine manufacturing program.

You will work directly with the engineering team to understand what equipment needs to be bought and tested and relay that information to suppliers.

You will guide and strategize what needs are important and purchase equipment accordingly.

The Purchasing Agent will be expected to be honest, pragmatic, and an excellent communicator. You will both be able to complete solo tasks and contribute effectively in a team environment. You will be friendly, co-operative, and genuinely engaged in the work you are doing.

You have a strong sense of curiosity and a desire to "learn by doing." However, you will also have a firm grounding in supply chain management.


Practically speaking you will:


  • Develop purchasing strategies and identify buying trends
  • Negotiate terms and contracts with suppliers
  • Follow up with suppliers on deliveries
  • Monitor inventory levels and verify purchase requisitions
  • Keep detailed records
  • Maintain professional relationships with key suppliers, including annual assessments/evaluations
  • Negotiate with stakeholders and suppliers on commercial deals

The Details:

This is a full-time permanent position working Monday to Friday, 8:30 - 5:00 PM, onsite in Burnaby, BC. Our client offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, a comprehensive benefits plan, bonus, and vacation.


What You'll Bring

  • Postsecondary degree in business operations, production, supply chain or related field
  • Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident status
  • Previous experience in procurement or related position
  • 35 years of experience with an ERP system
  • 35 years of experience in a projectized work environment
  • Strong understanding of quality management such as standards, regulations and applicable policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of international shipping practices (asset)
  • Knowledge of TDG shipping practices (asset)
  • ISO9001 quality control (asset)
  • Familiarity with occupational health and safety programs (asset)
  • Experience working with the Jobscope ERP system (asset)
