SOCIAL WORKER
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, WELL-BEING AND SCHOOL IMPROVMENT

1.0 FTE Permanent position

The Simcoe

County District School Board (SCDSB) is committed to supporting the academic achievement

and mental health and well-being of diverse racialized students and those with lived

experience. The Social

Worker of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Well-being and School Improvement will

be mandated to support ongoing improvement in racialized student experience and

mandate to partner with communities, schools and scholars designing,

implementing, analyzing, and disseminating school-based pedagogic approaches toward

improving student outcomes and racialized students' feelings of school

belonging.

Reporting to

the Superintendent of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Mental Health Lead and

support the Superintendent of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the

Superintendent of Well-being by working with multi-disciplinary teams to

provide social work services to equity-seeking students, families and their

schools with proactive services, parent engagement initiatives and supports at the

local school level.

Duties of the role

will include but are not limited to:
Provide response, individual and small group counselling to equity-disserving

students; provide coaching, psychoeducation and consultation to families and

school staff;

Provide suicide risk and violent threat risk assessment, in

collaboration with family, school community, and health system partners.

Provide response where school communities have been impacted by a traumatic

event;

Work in partnership with board staff, committees, or departments to be

responsive to and enhance capacity in the provision of education and services

rooted in anti-racism and anti-oppressive practices, cultural humility, intersectional,

and strengths-based approaches that create safe(r) spaces and inclusivity of

students from racially diverse backgrounds;

Support learning of students and staff in understanding historical and

current manifestations of racism, discrimination, cultural appropriation,

xenophobia, power, privilege, oppression, and internalized racism and the impact

on children, youth and family mental health;

Foster the development and advancement of inclusive policy, educational

programming and support services that are reflective of the socio-emotional and

academic needs of children and youth from racially diverse backgrounds at a

system level;

Collaborate with various community stakeholders and partners within

Simcoe County to ensure inclusive and representative services and partnerships are

available to students and families;

Maintain confidential files and records per professional standards,

including preparation of reports;

Develop

working relationships with equity-seeking groups or other groups within the

SCDSB who identify as such, serving community agencies that support racialized

and equity-seeking persons to coordinate the delivery of effective programs and

connect parents with resources;

Remain current on promising practices and meaningful research on topics

relevant to Latinx, Asian, South Asian, Jewish, and Black students and their families

that are then integrated across schools and at the system level within the SCDSB;

Attend

and participate in meetings as required;

Other

duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
In accordance with the Ontario

Human Rights Code, this role is focused on serving the needs of racially

diverse students and preference in hiring will be given to racially diverse

Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree is required.

Membership, in good standing, with the Ontario

College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW);

Three (3) years' experience in children and youth mental

health services delivering individual and group counselling and consultative and

coaching services to support positive outcomes for children, youth, and their

families. Experience in an educational setting is preferred;

Demonstrated knowledge of service delivery approaches rooted in

intersectionality, anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice that nurture

safe(r) spaces, cultural humility and inclusivity;

Expertise in anti-oppressive, brief, strengths-based and evidence

informed interventions. Expertise in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour

Therapy, Single Session, Motivational Intervi
