REGIONAL RECREATION PROGRAMMER

This position is primarily based out of the Nelson & District Community Complex.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is inviting applications for a Regional Recreation Programmer position.

The Regional Recreation Programmer is responsible for planning, organizing and maintaining recreation programs, activities, training, events & volunteer opportunities which are delivered in a variety of parks and facilities across the RDCK.

The Programmer works collaboratively with facility staff & community groups. This position requires a high level of creativity, innovation and flexibility in order to develop recreation opportunities which support service goals of the RDCK & meet the needs of individuals & the community.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Demonstrates success, developing, organizing and implementing a variety of inclusive recreation programs, activities, and events
• Proven ability to plan, set, and achieve goals in large scale events and for all ages
• Demonstrates ability to develop strong relationships
• A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negation, problem solving, conflict resolution, and people management skills
• Demonstrated ability to plan, monitor and maintain department and program budgets.
• Demonstrated ability to meet various deadlines in a constantly changing service environment.
• High degree of resourcefulness, creativity, flexibility, and adaptability.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and public relation skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree in Recreation Administration
• Two years of related experience programming for
  
  multi-generation age groups in a variety of recreation settings.
• Acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with Recreation Software including registration, bookings and administration functions
• Event Management experience
• Experience or knowledge in the operations of public recreation facilities
• Training and experience in computerized work environment with high level of knowledge in MS Office
• Valid B.C Drivers' License and safe driving record
• Standard First Aid, CPR-level C, AED
• Satisfactory Criminal Record

This is a full-time term position of 35 hours per week and offers a comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation time, extended health and dental coverage and a generous pension plan. The normal hourly rate is $40.60 but ranges between $38.84- $44.13 per hour, dependent on experience.
