    We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to fill a Research Officer (AR) position in metal additive manufacturing, in the advanced and digital manufacturing field, within the team at the Automotive and Surface Transportation Research Centre in Winnipeg.     **Key Activities**

    To support program goals, the RA's activities may include:

    • Research and Development: Conduct advanced research in metal additive manufacturing, including process optimization, post-processing techniques, and quality control methods;
    • Experimental Design and Execution: Develop and implement new ways of studying process parameters, microstructure evolution, and mechanical properties;
    • Data Analysis: Utilize statistical methods and other analytical tools to draw meaningful conclusions for process optimization and error prediction;
    • Technology Evaluation: Assess emerging technologies, materials, and equipment related to metal additive manufacturing;
    • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to support interdisciplinary research projects;
    • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications for internal and external stakeholders;
    • Intellectual Property (IP): Contribute to IP development and protection by disclosing inventions, filing patent applications, and engaging in technology transfer activities;
    • Continuous Learning: Stay informed about trends in metal additive manufacturing by attending conferences and professional development activities; and
    • Customer Engagement: Support business development function as a leader in the scientific discipline. Help define customer needs and prepare the technical aspects of project proposals.

    **Pre-Screening Criteria**

    In your application, you must demonstrate that you meet all of the following pre-screening criteria:

    **Education**

    PhD in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering.

    A Master's in Engineering combined with work experience in research or technological development related to the position may also be considered.

    **Experience**

    • Significant experience in metal additive manufacturing in a research environment, including process development, process analysis, and material characterization;
    • Hands-on experience with metal additive manufacturing equipment (e.g., powder bed fusion and binder jetting) and related software;
    • Considerable experience working with digital data, including data collection, statistical analysis, programming, and machine learning;
    • Experience in planning and executing engineering projects and scientific research, including writing technical research project proposals; and
    • Experience with post-processing techniques would be considered an asset.

    *Significant experience refers to experience of two (2) to five (5) years.

    **Evaluation Criteria**

    Candidates will be assessed based on the following criteria:

    **Technical Skills**

    • Knowledge of metal additive manufacturing techniques and post-processing methods, including powder bed laser fusion, binder jetting, and inert atmosphere heat treatment;
    • Familiarity with error detection and prevention methods in complex mechanical systems, such as metal additive manufacturing equipment;
    • Ability to develop experimental plans, select appropriate methodologies, perform experiments accurately, and interpret results effectively;
    • Proficiency in using statistical methods, data visualization techniques, and relevant software tools to extract pertinent information from complex datasets, including sensor integration;
    • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex technical information to diverse audiences;
    • Knowledge of project management principles and practices; and
    • Knowledge of data preparation and build techniques using software tools for additive manufacturing (e.g., Materialise Magics) would be considered an asset.

    **Remuneration**

    The objective of this staffing measure is to fill a position at the ARAd - ARAs level. This is a position for individuals in the middle of their career, and the salary range is from $80,523 to $133,853.

    **Note:** The complete AR/CR salary structure comprises five levels. The salary determination will be based on an assessment of the applicant's expertise, outcomes, and impacts of previous professional experience compared to the requirements of the level. Thus, the initial salary may fall within another level of the AR/CR salary scale (above or below the level intended for this position).
