Position Description:

**Interprofessional Education Specialist

  • Substance Use Education & Practice Change Project**The Interprofessional Education Specialist (IES) is a leadership role focused on advancing paediatric practice through the provision of interprofessional education which influences clinical, professional and leadership development. Education is an iterative process whereby the educator is engaged in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation that influences the development of staff and students along the continuum of novice to expert practice. The vision for the role is operationalized through program development, classroom and clinical teaching, continuous quality improvement, staff & patient safety, consultation, networking, education innovation, scholarship and strategic initiatives.


The Substance Use Education and Practice Change project aims to promote learning and practice change in support of best practices for the identification, assessment and care for patients with substance use and substance use disorders at SickKids.

Related work is the implementation of a recently approved Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) for this patient population, that will have specific learning needs for those working in various clinical areas of the hospital (e.g emergency room, paediatric medicine units, psychiatry team, PICU staff).


Here¿s What You¿ll Get To Do

  • Ensure delivered education meets established practice standards and facilitate access to clinical resources, best practice guidelines, standards of practice or other resources as required to inform learning
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of specialized inservices or education sessions based on practice updates and identified needs
  • Ensure reporting metrics are completed and submitted.
  • Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning and disseminate new knowledge through scholarly work including presentations and publications.
  • You will work collaboratively with the IES team, Managers, Directors and interprofessional colleagues in creating a healthy learning and work environment.
  • You will be a strong role model for education colleagues, stakeholders & staff.
  • You are a systems thinker who collaborates with Interprofessional colleagues in program development, knowledge translation strategies and implementation science.

Here¿s What You¿ll Need

Essential Requirements

  • Three (3) or more years of experience working in a Paediatric Care or Mental Health and Addictions setting
  • For those with a Registered Nurse background
  • For those with any other Interprofessional background:
  • Strong evidence of clinical expertise in paediatric patient care and dedication to excellence in clinical practice
  • Demonstrated experience with theoretical and practical work in adult education including program planning, change leadership and project management
  • Demonstrated strong leadership capabilities, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, within an interprofessional team
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and experience advancing EDI objectives.

Assets

  • Experience in project management / coordination
  • Ability to selfinitiate, work independently and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Proven ability to network and build partnerships.
  • Experience in teaching in both clinical and classroom setting
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and collaboratively within the interprofessional team
  • Knowledge of standards of professional practice in own discipline and across clinical disciplines
  • Knowledge of best practices in interprofessional education

Employment Type
