Position Summary

Coordinator, Cancer Care, Breast Diagnostic Centre/Prostate Centre:

Cancer Care Coordinator is responsible for development, coordination, implementation, and effective operation of the Breast Diagnostic Centre and Prostate Center.

Taking a multidisciplinary approach to care, in collaboration with the General Surgeon and other members of the care team, Cancer Care Coordinator supports the patient and their family during the cancer diagnostic stage, and is a resource.

Cancer Care Coordinator develops, maintains, and participates in staff and patient learning programs, by utilizing valid research findings and engaging in research activities.

In contribution to the hospital's academic mandate, Cancer Care Coordinator works to advance care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation.

Cancer Care Coordinator contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

  • Provide advice and expert knowledge to support patients recently diagnosed with cancer
  • Demonstrate clinical values, consistent with the mission, vision and values of the hospital
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in clinical decision making
  • Coordinate followup on medical orders, to ensure timely implementation and access to required services; monitor data and wait times
  • Coordinate and prioritize the daytoday functioning of the Clinic, to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the interdisciplinary team, resulting in optimal patient care
  • Act as a resource to assist patients in navigating the health care system, and case manages patients through the continuum of care
  • Provide direction and guidance to all members of the health care team, patients and their families, groups and organizations and collaborate with the health care team members to plan for the care of patients and families
  • Identify practice issues and opportunities for improvement, and work with the Clinical Team Manager to develop systems for effective functioning of the centre
  • Support the Unit Secretary, in coordinating scheduling of patients and clinicians
  • Support staff in utilizing critical thinking skills in resolving clinical and administrative issues
  • Contributes meaningfully in Performance Evaluation process of the staff in the centre

Qualifications:


  • Registered Health Professional
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with a valid CNO licence, preferred
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Oncology experience is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills
  • Demonstrated leadership / incharge skills
  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
  • 35 years of relevant clinical experience in cancer care (breast cancer or prostate cancer expertise preferred)

This is a Part Time Unscheduled position with 4 and 8 hour shifts, day and evening shifts, including weekends in the Breast Diagnostic Centre and Prostate Centre (Branson Site).
