Events Technician - York BarbicanPurposeTo provide events support in the setup and technical delivery of events when required.
Key accountabilities
- To assist the Technical Department in the setting up and running of events at the York Barbican.
- To be a keyholder for the venue. To open up and lock up as required, including setting and unsetting alarms.
- To ensure the correct maintenance of all building technical equipment.
- To attend meetings, including technical updates and toolbox talks with the York Barbican team.
- As required, undertake tasks outside of your core discipline and work both closely and supportively with other departments, clients and external contractors.
- To use relevant PPE as required for working activities in line with method statements and safe systems of work.
- The role will also involve setting up events at the venue, some of which will involve overnight turnarounds. The post holder may be required to be Team Leader with a team of casual staff on these occasions.
- The post holder will also be required to be a Duty Technician on some shows and events, as selected by the Technical Manager.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture and ensure all work activities comply with ASM Global Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Following risk assessments and method statements.
- Completing incident forms for accidents or near misses or events which require reporting.
- Remaining vigilant of unforeseen hazards and risks to oneself and others.
- Support sustainability initiatives, environmental compliance and support measures for increased efficiency and minimising impact.
- To undertake any other relevant duties commensurate with the level of responsibility of the role as assigned by the Technical and Buildings Manager and Deputy Technical and Buildings Manager.
- To work as required, according to a rota which may require working at any time of the day or night and any day of the week.
- Solid understanding of technical requirements in midlarge sized touring venues, including Sound, Lighting, and AV.
- To undertake activities both supervised and unsupervised, delivering constantly high standards.
- To demonstrate high quality conduct and communications with staff, visitors and clients at all times.
- Able to work to strict deadlines with the ability to prioritise a range of tasks.
- Smart appearance and presentation.
- Detail oriented.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to effectively manage own time.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- The ability to work flexibly whilst under pressure.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning new skills and undertaking training.
- Working in a team environment.
- A good level of awareness of health and safety issues.
- General repairs.
- Some experience of working or being involved in the production, organisation or delivery of live events (desirable).
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge and Qualifications :

General information:
Due to the nature of the role there will be a requirement to work weekends, evenings and public holidays.
The role will involve physical labour tasks including manual handling and working at height.Additionally, there will be occasions where the Maintenance & Events Technician will be required to work at other venues operated by ASM Global.
