    Good Shepherd is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Harm Reduction Specialist - HOMES - Niagara Falls Site

    How You Will Make an Impact

    The successful candidate will extend our mission to on-site HOMES tenants through the provision of respectful and appropriate Harm reduction approaches in a supportive housing setting. This may include case management, crisis intervention and supportive counseling. The incumbent must be able to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team within a challenging and rewarding values-based environment.

    You will work as a member of a dynamic team of individuals to assist people in enhancing the dignity and quality of life in the lives of adults in a supportive housing setting..

    This role will be responsible for the provision of direct service to tenants many whom experience problematic substance use and who are tenants of the Good Shepherd HOMES program. The Harm Reduction Specialist will also serve as a team lead while on shift.

    You will demonstrate a compassionate, non-judgmental and patient demeanor when working with clients to develop a level of trust so they feel secure in being supported to reach their highest level of skill development possible. This level of trust will be established and maintained by involving the client as much as possible in discussion around their goals and recovery process.


    What You'll Bring to Our Team

    • Post secondary education degree in the field of social work, psychology, human services or related field
    • Expertise in Harm Reduction including implementing the best practices of safer supply and overdose prevention strategies
    • A minimum of two years' work-related experience, particular to persons who experience problematic substance use, mental health and homelessness
    • Knowledge of the Social Service system and Community Resources so as to make the appropriate referrals
    • The Harm Reduction Specialist will also apply Harm Reduction philosophies in supporting tenants to positively influence the Social Determinants of Health
    • Proficient computer skills in various software platforms is an asset
    • Expertise providing counseling and case management to individuals who are experiencing or have experienced a complex history of substance use such as motivational interviewing
    • Expertise in Addictions Assessment using the ADAT tool, GAINS and possibly the SS & A (Staged Screen and Assessment)
    • A working knowledge of best practices with regard to substance use, harm reduction, trauma, and the therapeutic relationship
    • Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd
    • CPR/First Aid certification
    • Valid Driver's license required
