The Opportunity
We are looking for an Underwriting Assistant - Property & Casualty to join our team. You will provide operations and underwriting support to property, casualty and professional & financial lines underwriters. This role offers potential for growth into an Underwriting role over time, as the business and team grow. Our focus is simple - create the best team of professionals in the business.

What You Will Do
Reporting to the commercial operations manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide administrative support underwriters across TMCAN's underwriting units.
  • Maintain records of broker correspondence and set up client files.
  • Triage new business submission and prepare submissions for underwriting reviews
  • Data entry into policy administration system.
  • Assist in the preparation of insurance transaction bordereaux.
  • Prepare insurance policies for issuance.
  • Process simple policy transactions and issue insurance certificates under the supervision of an underwriter.
  • Perform other general clerical duties such as handling phone calls, greeting visitors, handling deliveries and mail, handling payments/invoices, setting up files, copying, filing, faxing, scanning, ordering supplies, and operating and maintaining departmental office equipment.
  • You will also be asked to assist with broader company tasks as needed.

Our new Underwriting Assistant will have:

  • The ideal combination of education and experience
  • university degree or college diploma and 2+ years of relevant experience. Experience in property and casualty insurance preferred.
  • Takes initiative, is selfmotivated with a cando attitude.
  • Proven analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A proven ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines and driving for results.
  • Experience working closely with others and enjoy an atmosphere of crosscollaboration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to thrive in a changing environment and be comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS 360, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook) with a particular focus on Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are required; fluency in French is preferred but not required.
