University Settlement has developed programs to address the needs of more than 30,000 users annually through diverse areas such as settlement services, English language classes, employment counseling, senior services, youth programming, homeless programs, music and arts education, and daycare.

In addition, our main site hosts a full recreation center with pool, gym, and nautilus facilities.


JOB FUNCTION:

This position is responsible for ensuring a welcoming and efficiently run reception area at University Settlement's Front Desk. Employee is required to perform tasks that demand mínimal accurate co
- ordination of fine or coarse movements. Some degree of care required to prevent injury or harm to others.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High School graduation and related courses at community college level or equivalent
  • One (1) year related experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
  • Good allround computer skills with working knowledge of the Microsoft Office systems and
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent telephone manner and experience operating a multiline telephone system
  • Basic mathematical competence.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Responsible for receiving all telephone calls, keeping accurate messages for staff, students and volunteers and/or relaying calls to same
  • Provide a congenial atmosphere for receiving visitors and notify staff of their arrival.
  • Ensure provision and dissemination of information related to University Settlement Recreation
Centre's objectives, policies, programs and services to the general public

  • Responsible for the processing of memberships, inclusive of the receipt of fees, issuing of membership cards, receipt reconciliation and ensure data entered accurately in Active Net
  • Responsible for keeping keys to various areas of the building, only giving keys out to authorized persons and ensuring return of same. Report loss of keys immediately to Supervisor
  • Responsible for giving the security code to members with valid membership card
  • Tact and diplomacy are required when handling contacts of a difficult or specialized nature, for the discussion and resolution of problems
  • Distribute daily and notify the related staff for arrival of any courier packages and process outgoing mail
  • Accept and record overthecounter payments
  • Work closely with department directors and managers to ensure department and program needs are met
  • Develop and maintain cooperation and openness, and work collaboratively with others to achieve University Settlement's objectives
  • Recognize department and/or community needs/trends and develop appropriate methods to respond
  • Other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, satisfactory to University Settlement is a requirement of this position. All University Settlement employees are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of hire in accordance with the University Settlement Mandatory
Vaccination Policy.


SCHEDULE:


  • Business Hours:
Monday

  • Friday 6:45am
  • 8:30pm
Saturday, Sunday 8am-5pm

  • Backup coverage for other shifts as needed

SALARY RANGE:
$21.20/hour, rate includes pay equity, and 60 cents in lieu of benefits will be added once probation is passed
