About the Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager, Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Practice Assistant participates in the provision of safe, competent, patient or family centered ethical care, ensuring goals and needs of the patient are prioritized and individualized.

The Pharmacy Practice Assistant prepares, packages and dispenses medication under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist.

Responsibilities include packaging of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms, dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose, traditional and IVA systems, compounding sterile and non-sterile products, preparation of chemotherapy doses, distributing narcotics and participating in quality programs.


About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Two years experience as a hospital pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, an asset
  • Licensure in Nova Scotia as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) is an asset
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with hazardous and nonhazardous sterile admixtures are an asset
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and controlled drugs
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives:

$ $26.14 Hourly
