Description

The Clinical Practice Leader leads the collaborative care planning process, provides supervision to care staff, and acts as a clinical resource to nurses, care aides, and interdisciplinary team members in the provision of direct care to patients/residents.

Assists the Manager in assessing clinical development needs/interests of staff, and with orientation and instructional programs. Assists in the promotion of quality improvement initiatives. Maintains Nursing Standards of Practice and provides staff development, supervision, and support relative to palliative care services.


EDUCATION/PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE:


  • BScN plus five years recent experience in Palliative Care Nursing or related nursing experience in acute and community care or the Employer will equally consider an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Two (2) year's coordinator/management experience in a related field, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia.
  • CNA Certification in Palliative Care is an asset.

ABILITIES/SKILLS:


  • Ability to supervise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to empathize and work with people who have experienced abuse, poverty, and/or family violence, addictions issues, AIDS, and other lifelimiting illnesses, mental illness, and multiple losses
  • Ability to operate related equipment. Knowledge of computer programs including MS windows environment, MS Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to assist in developing, implementing and evaluating programs in areas of clinical practice.
  • Ability to perform indepth holistic patient/family assessments, plan, implement and evaluate care for complex care situations, and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members in care planning.
  • Ability to be a leader and consultant for individuals and groups.
  • Ability to provide guidance, coach, and supervise.
  • Ability to assist in the development of professional and leadership skills of the care staff.
  • Ability to synthesize and utilize research findings to promote best practice.
