Mathematics and Sciences Branch
The Mathematics and Sciences Branch contributes to the ongoing work of the Curriculum Division by developing, maintaining and supporting provincial K-12 curriculum in both English and French in the areas of Mathematics and Sciences.

Curriculum Consultant, Math
Are you looking for a position that has province-wide impact and influence?
The Curriculum Consultant is a key member of the Mathematics and Sciences branch who provides support for maintenance of current curriculum with internal and external stakeholders, as appropriate.
It also includes executing the following responsibilities:
- Providing curriculum and resource information to teachers, school administrators, and school district administrators as requested.
- Researching issues to prepare responses to action requests on behalf of the branch, executives, and/or the Minister.
- Establishing and maintaining strong communication and working relationships with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate information flow and identification of issues.
- Providing expertise and support for the development of new curriculum in the area(s) of specialization as well as supporting learning and teaching resources development and implementation.
- Conducting research and summarizing content from a variety of sources (i.e., scholarly peerreviewed academic journals, administrative publications, government studies, books, jurisdictional reviews, etc.).
- Collaborating with a large and diverse stakeholder community.
- Being accountable for the content in the curriculum.
- Supporting the maintenance of current curriculum as well as the implementation of new curriculum and monitor its continued use.
- Providing such other services as may be required and agreed upon between the Employee and the branch Director.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
A Master's Degree in a field related to Education or Mathematics, supplemented by a minimum of five years of related progressively responsible experience is required.
This position requires expert knowledge of:
- Curriculum development models and current research regarding trends in curriculum and technology development.
- Department goals and policies that relate to curriculum development and implementation.
- Structures and policies of school authorities with respect to provincial accountability systems and teachers' participation in such tasks as curriculum development.
- Valid permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate plus extensive current related teaching and leadership experience at the school, jurisdictional and/or provincial level.
- Experience and/or fluency in French language is an asset.
- Strong commitment to excellence and accountability in education.
- Understanding of The Guiding Framework for the Design and Development of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Provincial Curriculum.
- Understanding of research on the principles of 21st century learning, the implications for curriculum development and the use of technology in learning and teaching.
- Indepth theoretical and practical knowledge of teaching and learning processes across K12 Mathematics.
- Understanding of First Nations, Métis and Inuit education would be an asset.
- Excellent communication (oral, written, computer literacy) and interpersonal skills.
- Sound project management skills, organizational skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrate initiative, flexibility and strong problem solving skills.
