    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Health & Human Services, the Program and Curriculum Mentor is responsible for supporting the faculty in the orientation and development of course materials; consults and collaborates with the Centre of Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI) to support faculty orientation and development; and is the Curriculum and Evaluation representative on NIC/VIU Curriculum and Evaluation Advisory Committee.

    This role involves working closely with the Department Chair with the College's academic and/or strategic planning processes and supports the Department Chair in work with faculty and the department as a whole.


    The teaching faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College's vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning.

    To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, relational skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design.

    In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues.

    The responsibilities and typical duties listed below constitute a generic job description for teaching faculty whose responsibility may be for the delivery of scheduled classes, the support of self-paced, on-line, and distance courses, and/or instruction and supervision in laboratories (learning centres), and practicums.

    • Interpersonal Effectiveness. Duties & Responsibilities 1. Supports the faculty in the orientation and development of course materials.

    This includes:
    a) Assists Department Chair with the onboarding and orientation of new regular faculty.b) Mentors faculty in partnership with the Academic Advisor and Faculty Navigator, in understanding and working within the shared curriculum.c) Supports faculty understanding curriculum as a whole across the program.d) Supports new/novice instructors in the development and understanding of soft skills that may assist with their work in the post-secondary context.e) Mentors faculty in the drafting and development of curriculum and/or program proposals and assist faculty with their completion.f) Mentors faculty in the research for new course materials and assists with its completion.g) Engages in consultation, either with the proposing faculty or independently, to facilitate review of proposals with the Department Chair or Associate Dean.h) Attends Department meetings in an advisory capacity.i) Stewards faculty members in the project management of proposals.j) Reports to the appropriate Dean on the progress of approved development projects.k) Ensures that all required draft course materials, such as student manuals, faculty manuals, etc., are current and available to faculty.l) Works with Department Chair to develop and ensure currency of course materials and development procedures as appropriate.


    • Consults and collaborates with the Centre of Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI) to support faculty orientation and development.

    This includes:
    a) Reviews evaluation and assessment assignments throughout the program as a whole.b) Reviews assignments with consideration of student learning and faculty workload.c) Advises the appropriate Dean of the status of assignments across the department as a whole.d) Consults and collaborates with faculty and the CTLI to develop professional development resources and events.e) Mentors and supports faculty to develop scholarship plans and proposals.f) Supports faculty to identify and develop a research agenda

    • Is the Curriculum and Evaluation representative on NIC/VIU Curriculum and Evaluation Advisory Committee.

    This includes:
    a) Acts as liaison between faculty and students at NIC on curriculum discussions.b) Liaises with VIU for joint curriculum/evaluation meetings.c) Facilitates the curriculum evaluation process for the NIC Nursing Program.d) Reviews opportunities to improve the program evaluation process and initiate the change by discussing with members of the Committee.e) Supports and encourages evaluative research activities which influence our facultyf) students and curriculum such as the Revised Curriculum Evaluation Project.4. Subject to the requirements of the Collective Agreement, participates in the recruitment and selection of faculty within the Department.


    • Supports the Department Chair with the College's academic and/or strategic planning processes, and supports the Department Chair in work with faculty and the department as a whole.
    • Performs other tasks as may be assigned, in keeping with the policies, programs and services of the College. Required Education & Experience - Minimum Masters Degree, one degree must be in Nursing.- Minimum 7 years recent experience in post-secondary education.- Extensive knowledge of and experience with the CAEN Curriculum (minimum of five years).- Minimum of five years successful experience in a leadership role in post-secondary education.- Minimum five years successful project management experience.- A minimum of five years experience with curriculum development, revision, and implementation processes.- Current CPR level HCP. Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities - Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.- Ability to lead with respect, diplomacy and tact.- Experience implementing policies and systems that create clarity and efficiencies.- Demonstrated experience with strategic and educational planning.
