As a member of Private Wealth Management, the Wealth Planning Tax Specialist is responsible for partnering with TD advisors to deliver high value customized guidance on retirement, tax, estate, and overall wealth planning to HNW clients of TD.


Specifically, the Wealth Planning Specialist has accountability for:

  • Providing professional financial, tax, estate and risk management planning support and solutions to qualifying clients of TD Wealth yearround.
  • Preparation of complex T1 (Personal) returns, including providing proactive tax planning solutions.
  • Assisting advisors and relationship managers with business development, opportunity spotting, and revenue generation.
  • Executing TD Wealth's high net worth strategy.
The Wealth Planning Tax Specialist is an experienced practitioner whose expertise is leveraged by partners in TD Wealth.

They will work with Wealth Advisory Services (WAS), Centralized Planning and Private Trust (PT) partners, as required, for wealth planning and tax preparation services.

They must be comfortable in providing ongoing tax relationship management to approximately one hundred (100) personal tax clients, which includes ensuring that the tax returns are prepared and filed in an effective and timely manner.


Hybrid Scheduled Role:


Wealth Planning Tax Specialists split their work week between our corporate offices (minimum 3 days per week) and home office based on pre-scheduled days during a standard 37.5-hour work week.

In addition, this role requires significant excess hours, during the very fast paced personal tax filing Season (March & April).

We offer a flexible work environment outside of tax season.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Preparing customized wealth plans based on information obtained directly from HNW clients and their relationship managers.
  • Preparing complex personal, trust and corporate tax returns (i.e., TI, T2, T4, T5, GST) for assigned clients in a timely and accurate manner, including correspondence and fee invoices associated with the client file.
  • Client relationship management of assigned client tax files, including providing proactive year end tax planning solutions.
  • Assisting external tax and legal advisors, with corporate tax planning, reorganizations, amalgamations, and windups.
  • Carrying out independent research to ensure client's key issues (retirement, tax, philanthropic and estate planning) are addressed.
  • Keeping informed of relevant wealth planning (retirement, tax, estate planning, etc.) developments and keeping TD partners informed of developments.
  • Proactively spotting, anchoring, introducing, and following up on opportunities for complimentary businesses and solutions.
  • Working effectively to develop and maintain relationships with TD Wealth advisors and relationship managers within TD Wealth.
  • Delivering wealth planning presentations to advisors and clients.
  • Working closely and assisting other WAS and PT team members with preparing comprehensive wealth plans.
  • Developing strong internal and external networks and referral sources.
  • Ensuring appropriate service levels are provided to maximize role profitability, minimize costs, and manage business to avoid financial losses and reputational damage to TD.
  • Carry out other tasks and duties as assigned by manager from time to time.
Job Requirements


Education/Accreditations:


  • Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).
  • Certified Financial Planning (CFP) or equivalent designation.
  • CICA In-Depth Course, preferred.

Other Qualifications/Skills/Experience:


  • 8+ years of relevant experience in all aspects of Wealth Planning, including complex financial planning and taxation matters.
  • 3+ years of recent experience in a professional tax services environment (i.e., tax services company, trust company or public accounting firm) preparing and reviewing personal (T1) income tax returns.
  • Excellent client management skills and thorough understanding of personal tax compliance requirements.
  • Experience in tax accounting and preparing corporate (T2) income tax returns for investment holding companies and trust (T3) tax returns, would be an asset.
  • Proficient with CCH Taxprep software, CaseWare and CRA Represent a client system.
  • Strong computer skills, experience with MS Office, Adobe Professional, Naviplan, Voyant and/or other
