Teck is looking for an experienced Production Superintendent to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes.

Reporting to the Operating Manager, E&M, the Production Superintendent, Melting manages and directs the day-to-day operations of the Melting Plant.


To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with proven leadership, organization, problem solving, decision making and communication skills along with a strong track record of meeting production goals in an industrial environment.


This role is based in the welcoming community of Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia.

Responsibilities:


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead and oversee the Melting Plant's operations including safety, environmental, production, quality, hygiene and housekeeping ensuring standards, policies and procedures are followed in compliance with regulations and agreements
  • Set plant priorities and align objectives and goals with Operating Manager
  • Guide process standardization and operational expertise to team and resolve frequently changing processes
  • Audit plant performance to ensure effective operations and establish corrective action plans as needed
  • Recommend and implement improvements by finding opportunities, working with team members, completing improvement initiatives, and validating performance results
  • Assist and provide guidance in planning and coordinating Shutdowns with plant operations and communicate timing requirements for planned outages
  • Lead and mentor a team by clarifying accountabilities, setting expectations, organizing work, driving performance and excellence and providing strategic direction
  • Provide short and longterm performance and career development for employees
  • Provide opportunities for assignments that develops skills, promotes learning, and grows people's capabilities
  • Advise and participate in performance management and succession planning programs
  • Lead staffing and recruitment requirements for the Melting Plant
  • Provide input into budgets by monitoring and reporting on expenditures and identifying opportunities to reduce costs and explaining variances
  • Develop and maintain cross functional working relationships with other plants to ensure priorities are aligned with business requirements
  • Collaborate with peers prioritizing transparent and proactive communications

Qualifications:


  • Technical Degree or Diploma in Smelting/Refining, Mineral Processing or Mining, or a combination of education and industrial experience
  • 8+ years' industrial experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem solving and decisionmaking abilities
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines

Salary Range:
$130,000 - $160,000
