What's in it for you

  • Have fun with a tightknit group of colleagues on and off shift
  • A laidback, casual work environment that is a lot less stuffy than working in a hotel.
  • Tons of opportunities to experience our destination on your time off as you become a local expert—free and discounted activities, free hostel stays within the HI Canada network and more.
  • Being part of a notforprofit organization that embraces sustainable tourism.
  • Room for growth and discovery Many of our leaders started out on the front lines, and we're eager to promote from within and provide opportunities to try out different roles.

What you will be doing

This job is more than a housekeeping cart and a list of rooms to clean, it's about being part of a team and interacting with like-minded travellers who are looking for local adventure.

  • Clean all guest rooms efficiently and effectively to ensure they are ready for check in time.
  • Ensure all common areas, washrooms, showers and hallways are cleaned to our standard.
  • Follow the hostel cleaning schedule.
  • Communicate regularly with the Housekeeping Supervisor and the Night Auditor to ensure rooms are cleaned as needed.
  • Perform laundry duties such as collecting linens and towels, washing, folding, and putting them away.

What we look for

  • People who like to move and roll up their sleeves as you'll spend 67 hours cleaning each day
  • You'll need to enjoy working as part of a team and bringing your positive energy and humour to work every day.
  • You'll also have times where independence is required, which is a great time to jam to those Spotify tunes.
  • You'll need to take pride in whatever you do. Our Housekeeping department has one of the most important tasks in our hostel, and we need teammates who understand that, and are keen to be part of delivering a great experience to our guests every day.

About HI
We love travelling.

To us, travel isn't just about going places, it's also about meeting people, discovering cultures, eating new food and most of all, learning how people do things differently than we do back home.

We believe that through hosteling, we become more conscious about the world around us; and we can even make the world a better place.

Our mission is to build a community of conscious travellers who share a greater understanding of people, places and cultures through our network of hostels and people.
