NHPSG is a non-profit organization that is funded by the Ministry of Child and Family Development and the Ministry of Education to provide care and education for a child in his own home, who requires 2:1 full-time care, due to complex needs.


Role:

This position will assist the Program Manager in helping a client to live successfully in his onw home.

The incumbent will ensure that the following needs of the client are met:
physical, emotional, social, educational and medical needs.

**Hours: (40 hours per week)

Monday to Friday, 7:00 am

  • 3:00 pm **when there is staff shortage or emergencies, the program manager may schedule staff with time apportioned through days and evenings, and weekends as necessary to meet the program and client needs.

Duties:


  • Acts as a positive rolemodel for client and other staff while providing life skills training and behaviour support.
  • Follow policies, guidelines from NHPSG as well as the ministries and implement plans from the therapists.
  • Supervises all activities of the client and participate in a playful and respectful manner with the client.
  • Preparation of all meals for the client.
  • Housekeeping duties and may involve the client where appropriate under guidance of the program manager.
  • As long hours of standing, and pushing of the client in a cart is required, the incumbent must be healthy and fit.
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • The program manager may assign other duties from time to time as the needs of the program or client may change.

Qualifications and experience

  • Diploma or certification preferable as an Educational Assistant or social work or other human services such as psychology, child & Youth Care etc.
  • At least one year experience working with children that has autism, sensory needs and complex needs.
  • Experience working with children with significant developmental delays including intellectual and emotional.
  • Ability to work with aggressive and challenging behaviours in an effective and calmly manner.
  • Ability to work effectively in a home with significant challenges that may include handling of body fluids and other undesirable situations with safety, dignity and respect for the client.
  • Must be willing and able to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with the client, other team members, family, partners and directors of the Society.

Requirements:


  • Complete a Criminal Record check
  • Pass a reference check
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Valid class 5 drivers licence
  • Autism experience
  • Diploma or certification in Human Services
  • Non-Violent Crisis intervention on Mandt Certification preferable (If not training will be provided).

Salary:
$26.91-$30.45 per hour
