What you'll do


The Product Development (Home & Style) team's mandate is to help build the equity of CTR's Retail Brands by improving the design and experience associated with our owned brand offerings.

The Product Development Consultant's role is to support the Product Development Manager in building products that help deliver a consistent, authentic, and customer-driven product experience through our retail brands.


  • Under the guidance of the Product Development Manager, creates design and technical specification for sourcing packages including any relevant product sketches and details per dimensions, colour, material and pattern detail, packaging and trim info, etc.
  • Perform research on key trends and innovation considering elements such as form, functionality, materials, and colour palettes, including user experience and identifying solutions for customer pain points.
  • Provide input and analysis where needed when working through the countersample and approval process; communicates to vendors any relevant changes.
  • Maintain detailed product tracking spreadsheets; review and assess a high volume of samples and quotes; track progress and approvals at each stage in the development process.
  • Work closely with the crossfunctional teams at key touch points to execute design direction.
  • Help to provide art direction for packaging, photography, and marketing, etc. as needed, and work with crossfunctional teams to ensure consistent presentation of the brand in all consumerfacing vehicles.
  • Create presentation boards and participate in presentations as required, to help guide both crossfunctional teams and consumerfacing activity incorporating colour, material, pattern, and trend direction as set by the Product Development Manager.

What you bring

  • Undergraduate degree in a Design Discipline with minimum 35 years product development experience
  • Excellent Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Outlook, and Excel skills. Ability to produce technical drawings and Solid works skills are beneficial.
  • Experience with usability testing, ethnographic research, design research methodologies and product development tools
  • Familiarity of basic manufacturing processes of various materials weaving, printing, molds, etc.
  • Handson ability to create product and packaging mockups, physically build and dissemble product samples to analyze and problem solve.
  • Outstanding communicator able to clearly translate strategy into design specs and/or trend, style, and colour direction.
