The Opportunity


Corporate Facilities provides the City of Barrie with expertise in four key service areas: facility planning, design and construction; maintenance and property management, facility asset management and energy management.

As a Centre of Excellence for a large and complex inventory of physical assets, the department comprises all the necessary functions and lines of business to ensure the full life-cycle management of the City of Barrie's facility and property portfolios.


Under the general guidance and direction of the Manager of Facility Planning and Development or delegate within Corporate Facilities, the Project Manager is responsible for the coordinated management of large or multiple overlapping capital projects.

Specifically, this position is responsible for developing project plans, budgets and schedules which detail the tasks, resources and timelines required to achieve defined outcomes.

Additionally, this position assembles a project team to execute the project plan, coordinates the execution of project activities, and tracks and reports progress of the project.

Lastly, this position liaises between internal and external project team members and stakeholders to ensure completion of project deliverables.

Overall, this position plays an integral role in managing capital projects in the Corporate Facilities Department that enhances service delivery to meet the City's growing needs.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Four (4) year University Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related discipline

Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
  • Demonstrated project management experience within the construction industry
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating project teams
  • Demonstrated experience with complex procurements

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Working knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: Occupational Health and Safety Act; Ontario Building Code
  • Working knowledge of the following principles and standards: Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) Contract Documents; administrative processes and protocol; budget administration; customer/public relations principles; records management practices; research resources and practices
  • Demonstrated Ability to:
- coordinate simultaneous projects
- develop, promote, and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- exercise discretion and judgment when handling confidential, sensitive, and controversial information
- interact effectively and courteously with all levels of staff and contacts in a political and community/client service
environment
- lead staff in achieving objectives, and encourages others to work in a manner that will meet or exceed the desired
objectives or results
- maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
- perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission, and values
