ROLE OVERVIEW

Thiess is seeking Multi-Skilled Heavy Equipment Operators to support our mining team on our project site near Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

Depending on availability, business necessity, and operator experience, heavy equipment operators may run haul truck, water truck, dozer, motor grader, large excavator, or wheel loader in an open-cut mining environment in a safe, productive, and cost-effective manner.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under direct supervision, the Heavy Equipment Operator performs earthmoving and support duties in a Mining environment.
  • Job tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability, or operations.
  • EXCAVATOR/

LOADER:
Must have working knowledge of overburden handling, ore and soil segregation, while maintaining grade

LOADER:
General knowledge of hydraulic principles

  • Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing PPE
  • Job tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability or operations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results within a team environment with mínimal supervision at times.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail and excellent followup skills
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability and willingness to work different schedule on site based on project needs

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Mining or heavy industrial construction experience considered an asset
  • Posthigh school training in a related area
  • Transferrable construction equipment, veteran or military operations experience considered in lieu of mining
  • EXCAVATOR/

LOADER:
3 to 5 years' experience operating excavator and loader

  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Work with other project employees to meet the project's safety, environment, and production targets
  • Must be fluent in the English language
  • Authorization to work lawfully in the Canada without sponsorship from Thiess is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to live and work at high altitudes (12,000 ft. elevation) for a week at a time
  • Able to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees Fahrenheit
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb ladders
  • Able to work for extended 12hour shifts
  • No auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)
  • Quick response/reaction times
  • Armhand steadiness and manual dexterity
