The role. We are currently seeking a temporary Operating Technician in the Power & Recovery Department. Power & Recovery Operating Technicians are instrumental in the pulp making process and have the responsibility to ensure their specific area and process systems function properly. The term of this position will extend until December 31, 2023, with the possibility of extension.


Role and Responsibilities

  • Abide by all safety precautions, government regulations and company policies and procedures related to the safe operation of the department and in compliance with ABSA regulations.
  • Work with operators and engineers to ensure assets are meeting or exceeding productivity and targets at the lowest possible cost.
  • Responsible for the creation and review of standard department procedures and system lockouts for the process areas assigned.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the steam and causticizing areas and all associated equipment in order to safely maximize mill production.
  • Use computerized systems to control, start, and shutdown the operation of boilers and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and take corrective action to equipment for inspection and repair through operatordriven reliability.
  • Identify critical process challenges; draw logical conclusions providing options and recommendations.
  • Analyze complex process issues; identify connections between situations that are not obviously related.
  • Conduct various quality tests to manage the overall productivity of equipment and to ensure we maintain a high quality pulp product.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments in the operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Additional duties, as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, decision making and communication skills.
  • Ability to work a continuous 28day shift work cycle in a physically demanding setting.
  • Enjoy working with tools, equipment, instruments and machinery.
  • Independent, selfdriven/directed, innovative and safetyconscious individual.
  • Demonstrated problemsolving, troubleshooting and analytical skills.

  • Compensation is based on experience, qualifications and competency with a starting hourly rate range of
    $32.39, plus scheduled overtime and a
    12.5% Average Regular Premium (ARP).
