Job duties

Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction/industrial projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications
Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate industrial/construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget
Prepare and submit construction/industrial project budget estimates
Plan and prepare schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules
Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients
Direct the purchase of materials
Establish and maintain tendering process and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a project
Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
Manage and coordinate construction projects and prepare construction progress schedules.
Estimators may specialize in estimating costs for structural or mechanical construction projects.
