We have an exciting opportunity at RMA to join the Life Reinsurance team as Assistant Vice President, Marketing Underwriter.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Business Development, Life Reinsurance, the purposes of this role are twofold:

to serve as the life reinsurance team's Subject Matter Expert in matters of underwriting, risk selection, accelerated underwriting, emerging underwriting requirements and techniques and secondly, to assist the EVP Business Development in maintaining existing client relationships and developing new relationships.


What You Will Be Doing
Promotes effective business relationships with ceding companies and overseas business partners.
Understand the contestable and litigated claims review process to make recommendation.
Participates in and provides analysis and input during the life reinsurance pricing process. This includes providing expert opinion on value of underwriting requirements and preferred criteria, evaluation of accelerated underwriting programs, etc.

Keeps abreast of evolving underwriting practices: consistently researches industry trends and analyzes the competitive landscape in order to be able to offer expert opinion to both internal and external stakeholders.

Provides training and advice to external business partners on North American underwriting procedures, guidelines, and practices.
Oversee the performance of underwriting and claims audits.
Provide underwriting support for the group life business.
Have responsibility for underwriting inquiries, automatic exception requests, treaty reviews, etc.


What You Bring to the Role
Completion of post-secondary education.
10 or more years' experience in underwriting individual life insurance; experience underwriting for a life reinsurer is ideal.
In-depth knowledge of large case and reinsurance-focused technical underwriting; past approval authority $5 million or higher.

Knowledge of life, group life, critical illness, longevity.
Exposure to special risk underwriting, such as athletes, entertainers and foreign nationals.

Willingness to travel and ability to professionally represent RMA as a knowledgeable business partner at industry meetings, conferences and with ceding companies.

Familiarity with reinsurance treaty issues and related processes.
FLMI, FALU designations.
Collaborative and comfortable dealing with colleagues of various professional backgrounds, especially actuaries.
Effective and comfortable communicator, both oral and written.
Strong negotiation, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
