    About the Role

    Our Investigation and Learning Focal has great collaborating and coaching skills to contribute to the development and implementation of HSSE behaviour and culture in the operations and maintenance of the Asset. We are seeking extensive knowledge in the application of the HSSE manuals, processes, and procedures for our team to create injury free operations in a hazardous environment.

    The Investigation and Learning Focal key role are to support the Asset HSSE team in the readiness, implementation, and monitoring performance of the HSSE Management Systems within the LNG Canada HSSE Control Framework. The HSSE team will be focal point for the processes and procedures delivered for the site to make it easier for our workforce to work safely were we welcome their insights and inputs. These will ensure that the controls we are creating within the HSSE Framework fit the task being performed on site.

  • You will use your expertise to:

  • To promote and support the awareness and use of the Causal Learning methodology (and other Incident Investigation and Learning Tools) throughout the business.
  • Utilize the Causal Learning methodology to support and facilitate varying levels of HSSE incident investigations and other reviews.
  • Develop and maintain a group of Causal Learning facilitators within LNGC.
  • Develop and implement an Improvement Plan for Incident Investigation and Learning (IIL) for the LNGC business that is aligned with the JVP strategy and guidance.
  • Assess and measure the quality and effectiveness of the IIL processes and materials and support the business to address the gaps.
  • Embed learning from incidents by working with relevant stakeholders and the broader JVP IIL network. Implement effective processes, quality materials and fit-for-purpose tools.
  • Support LNGC Leadership to comply to the HSSE Control Framework (CF) IIL Manual Section requirements as per the LNGC procedures.
  • Implement changes to the JVP HSSE CF and incorporate changes into applicable LNGC procedures and processes.
  • Develop high quality asset/LOB Learn materials which are relevant and engaging and coach others in LNGC to do the same.
  • Develop and grow skills of HSSE and Line Managers in delivering Learning from Incidents messages. Maintain an effective network that is motivated to reduce repeat incidents.
  • Analyse incident data, identify trends, failed barriers, and behaviours. Work closely with the line to address weaknesses in implementation of CF requirements in Significant and High Potential incidents.
  • Support or lead the development of Reflective Learning materials, where applicable. Develop a plan and build the skills required to deliver effective sessions.
  • Support the Asset for coaching use of Sphera system (Reporting, Monitoring, and Quality Control on the Incident Management system). Challenging and Maintaining adequate Risk Ranking methodology.
  • Support Reliability team with guidance on Reporting, Monitoring, as per the Incident Management system.
  • Align and challenge teams on incidents Risk Ranking methodology to maintain consistency within the Asset.
  • Additional role elements as organization becomes more operational:

  • Interact with various levels of leadership within LNGC and our Contractor groups to provide coaching and mentorship in the Incident Investigation and Learning space.
  • Collaborate closely with and lead by influence, a group of non-HSSE professionals as LNGC Causal Learning facilitators.
  • Communicate with representatives in JVP Investigation and learning networks.
  • Work closely with LNGC's HSSE Systems team and site personnel to analyze HSSE data, identify trends, failed barriers, and behaviours.
  • Collaborate with LNGC Communications team (within SPHERA) to ensure compliance with LNGC's communications strategy and branding policies.

    To be successful, you will have:

  • Post-secondary degree or certificate in engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Expertise in the field of HSSE; investigations (HSSE incidents and/or reliability events) and Learning from Incidents
  • 7 years HSSE Experience in industrial, petro chemical or large projects.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching employees and leaders
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to challenge and coach (senior) Leadership, enabling leaders to understand how to improve performance
  • Ability to lead through influence.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Preferred:

  • Skilled in applying the Causal Learning Methodology and proven success in facilitation of several Causal Learning investigations. Awareness of other HSSE investigation methodologies considered an asset.
  • Barrier Analysis and Human Performance Analysis as part of an incident investigation
  • Knowledge on the Learning aspect for Significant incidents/selected for high value learning, e.g., HPIs.
  • Skilled in implementation and facilitation of JVP's Learning From Incidents and Reflective Learning processes.
  • Strong passion for HSE, drive to build and change HSE culture.
  • Knowledge, within HSSE Control Framework, including Safety Management Systems development and implementation.
  • Demonstration of the ability to implement HSSE Management Systems.
  • Working knowledge of HSSE principles and their applicability to Transition (CSU) and Operate (Aftercare) phases.
  • Role-model as Learner Mindset and support leaning as a deliberate improvement strategy.
  • Help foster psychological safety for the Asset.
  • Demonstrated core values of Honesty, Integrity and Respect.
  • This role requires that you:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
  • Live in the beautiful District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace). For applicants located outside of the region, you are encouraged to explore what Kitimat has to offer in terms of lifestyle including schooling, local amenities, outdoor adventure, and housing, to ensure Kitimat is where you would like to call your new home.
  • During CCSU work 50 hrs. /week, not necessarily every Saturday and Sunday off.
  • During steady state Operate work 40 hrs./week M-F
  • Are willing to work outdoors during inclement weather in all seasons including heavy snowfall and periods of heavy rain.
  • Can climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces. Plant design conditions provide structures that are significantly taller than common in industry, individuals must be comfortable with heights
  • Are able to work wearing a respirator or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) when required
  • Are willing to comply with LNGC's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, a background check and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.
  • Have a Valid Driver's license
  • Know that this is not a fly-in, fly-out rotation role.
