Payroll Specialist

Summary:


Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will support the administration of payroll processes, procedures and practices for the payroll department which serves multi-locations, in both union and non-union environments.


Responsibilities:


  • Process semimonthly and weekly payroll including adjustments/entries to employee compensation for overtime, new hires, hours and earnings adjustments, terminations, severance, taxable benefits (e.g., auto allowance, recognition awards), commissions, vacation, salary increases, bonuses, garnishments, and any required government remittances.
  • Responsible for supporting the semimonthly / weekly payroll for 1000+ employees
  • Administer payroll requirements for employees on STD, LTD, parental leave of absence.
  • Process manual / offcycle pay, as well as terminations (ROEs and vacation pay and all other related activities)
  • Prepare processes and maintain relevant paperwork associated with new hires, terminations, employee transfers, etc.
  • Audit payroll prior to submitting to Ceridian, and upon receipt of the payroll register. Ensure data integrity, perform payroll audits of all entries, maintain backup / support documentation, and participate in annual financial and governmental audits.
  • Support yearend procedures, and management of T4A issuance
  • Partner with HR Management to assist in special payroll projects. Support any business required audits
  • Overall maintenance of Payroll including records management, standard reporting, and ad hoc reporting
  • Provide regular payroll related management reporting and ad hoc reports
  • Interpret new legislation, determining its impact on payroll and discussing recommendations with Payroll Manager
  • Respond in a timely fashion to payroll inquiries and requests for information.
Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 23 years of payroll experience
  • National Payroll Institute PCP designation an asset
  • A Community College diploma in Payroll, Accounting or a related field would be an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Ceridian's Dayforce HCM payroll system would be an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office products, particularly Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, Filters, etc.) and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks, and effectively manage in a high stress environment
  • Ability to work independently and with others in a team environment
  • Knowledge of current legislative requirements and CRA regulations
  • Sensitive to dealing with confidential information
