POSITION PURPOSE

This position is responsible for coordinating the Region's Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and Long Term Disability (LTD) claims within with legislative and contractual requirements.

Processes the Region's Incident Reports, Form 7s, and OMERS Disability Waiver Forms.

Reports and reconciles WSIB and LTD finances; and provides a point of contact for the Region related to processing of WSIB/LTD benefits.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that the Region's Incident Reports are completed and submitted within the legislated timeframe, forwarding copies of forms to the corresponding internal business partners, as needed.
  • Liaises with WSIB representatives, processing all WSIB related correspondence/forms, and ensures appropriate internal stakeholders are advised.
  • Provides support to all Regional managers to ensure all work related injuries are reported accurately and in a timely manner; completes, authorizes and forwards the necessary information to WSIB as required.
  • Liaise with payroll to ensure appropriate coding for sick leave absences (WSIB, STD, LTD)
  • Coordinates the payment and reconciliation of WSIB invoices, and monthly cost statements for both Region and Police; identifies discrepancies in costs with WSIB requesting corrective action and/or explanation.
  • Responsible for reimbursing sick leave hours for employees based on the amount of WSIB benefit advances received each month and provides information to Payroll.
  • Assists in developing and implementing Regional guidelines and/or policy development regarding WSIB claims administration/management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post secondary education in Human Resources, Disability Management, Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in Human Resources in the public sector providing support and coordination; including a minimum of one (1) year experience in the disability management field with responsibility for WSIB and LTD claims management in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of WSIB procedures and practices for Schedule 2, including claim preparation, investigation and appeals.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations and other related legislation such as Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights Code, etc. with the ability to communicate its significance and relevance to each situation.
