FAMILY SUPPORT SPECIALIST
SUMMARY:
Ka-Na-Chi-Hih is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Support Specialist to join our team.
The Family Support Specialist will play a crucial role in providing support, resources, and guidance to families that are focusing on healing as part of their recovery journey.
This position requires a deep understanding of family dynamics, family systems, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with various community agencies to ensure the well-being of families.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of families to identify their strengths, needs, and challenges.
- Provide individual and family support to address emotional, behavioural, or relationship issues.
- Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate comprehensive care plans for families.
- Treatment planning and goal setting.
- Implement a wholistic approach incorporating Indigenous traditions and teachings.
- Facilitate mental health and addictions programming.
- Develop and facilitate educational sessions for families on topics such as parenting, communication, and life skills.
- Provide training to enhance parenting skills, stress management, and conflict resolution.
- Offer immediate support and intervention during crises or emergencies during the program duration.
- Advocating for and assisting families in accessing community resources, social services, and support programs in their community.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other professionals, agencies, and organizations to address systemic issues affecting families.
- Maintain accurate and uptodate case records for each family.
- Participate in community events to raise awareness and promote the services offered.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
This position is supervised and is accountable to the Clinical Lead.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of family systems and harm reduction models.
- Thorough knowledge of community resources and social services.
- Technological skills with Windows and Microsoft suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Understanding of mental health, addiction, and trauma.
- First Aid and CPR.
- Fluency in a NAN dialect (Cree, Ojibway or Ojicree) an asset.
Education
- A degree /diploma or certification from a recognized university or college in addictions, social work, or related field or equivalent training.
Experience
- Minimum two years' experience in working with families in a supportive capacity.
- Experience in working with Indigenous Youth, Adults and/or Families.
