Job Summary:

Creating the safe, sustainable municipal infrastructure that makes Toronto so livable is the responsibility of our Engineering & Construction Services (ECS) Division, which provides specialized engineering design and construction services to Toronto Water, Transportation Services, Solid Waste Management Services and other City of Toronto Divisions, Agencies, Boards and Commissions and external clients such as the development industry, utility companies and other public agencies.


As a Project Coordinator you'll provide strategic advice, leadership, and support to the Engineering and Construction Services Division on the coordination and implementation of action items outlined in the IDS Confronting Anti-Black Racism (CABR) Framework of Enduring Action.

You will lead the ECS CABR Working Group and coordinate with the IDS Divisional CABR committees and working groups by monitoring and evaluating outcomes; reporting annually on progress, new priorities and work plans; and managing organizational stakeholder relations.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Implements detailed plans and recommends policies and procedures regarding program specific requirements, such as the confronting antiBlack Racism (CaBR) actions, Equity Diversity & Inclusion plans, Reconciliation Plan and employee engagement.
  • Conducts research into assigned area ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
  • Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
  • Supervises assigned projects, ensuring effective teamwork and communication, high standards of work quality and organizational performance and continuous learning.
  • Participates in the job hiring process, contributing to the production of the practical and oral examination of staff and as a member of the interview panel, when requested.
  • Leads and coordinates the divisional response for corporate special projects/programs assigned by the Sr. Project Manager in support of the Director such as Toronto Public Service Week, Take Our Kids to Work, etc.
  • Leads staff teams for unique projects, such as Customer Service Improvement, United Way campaign, Employee Engagement, Toronto Public Service Week etc., with responsibility for recruitment and training of those staff as well as the budget and financial reporting for the campaign to lead any fundraising initiatives done within or across the Division.
  • Assists in the roll out of change management initiatives to support divisional transformation. Participates in the development of knowledgebased articles for the Employee Service Centre.
  • Liaises with divisional budget, accounting and administrative staff.
  • Represents the division on Divisional and Corporate workgroup and committees such as Information Management, Business Continuity, Customer Service, Access, Equity & Human Rights.
  • Monitors changes to corporate policies and procedures and determines impact on divisional operations.
  • Coordinates and maintains ongoing tracking and follow up on Service Area directives with Divisional Management Team such as management information reports, health and safety initiatives.
  • Prepares regular reports with trend analysis to Divisional Management Team on such issues as Customer Service measures, Information Management.
  • Coordinates completion of divisional work plans with divisional staff.
  • Prepares documents for Divisional Management by conducting research, analysis and scrutiny of all applicable materials.
  • Acts as a liaison between the division and other divisions across the City, with respect to divisional and operational issues in order to establish, maintain and develop linkages to other divisions, agencies and boards to ensure effective partnerships within the corporation.
  • Attends meetings on behalf of the Sr. Project Manager, when requested.
  • Coordinates and supports the work of divisional and corporate initiatives related to the division.
  • Organizes staff retreats, divisional team meetings, events and various communication material as required.
  • Makes presentations to senior divisional staff ensuring information on divisional and corporate initiatives and policies is disseminated/understood.
