Buy-Low Foods has an opening for a
Produce Manager to join our store located in
Surrey (Riverside) BC. This is a Full-Time position and reports to the Store Manager.

Department Managers lead the team in their department to provide excellent customer service in our busy grocery store.


We are looking for a strong leader who has a passion for fresh food and who can efficiently oversee the daily operations of the Produce Department in terms of staffing, sales, customer service, merchandising, and product quality.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide supervision to Produce Department staff to ensure quality customer service
  • Maximize sales and gross profit through effective and creative merchandising
  • Maintain department inventory by placing product orders regularly while adhering to departmental budgets
  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor staff members
  • Create the weekly work schedule for the Produce department
  • Efficiently stock, rotate and display product in a neat and appealing manner including watering, trimming and merchandising to ensure quality and freshness
  • Ensure the proper set up of racks, tables, coolers, backroom areas and proper rotation of cooler stock
  • Handle customer inquiries, requests and complaints in a prompt, polite and effective manner
  • Comply with the store's established Health and Safety and Food Safety policies and ensure that staff members are also adhering to these policies
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy of store signage with regards to pricing
  • Liaise with the store manager, department heads and produce staff to address any concerns, discuss upcoming ads or promotions, cross merchandising, etc.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Previous retail management experience, preferably in a Produce Department
  • Able to lead a team in an enthusiastic and positive manner
  • Superb customer service skills with a desire to provide a great shopping experience for customers
  • Exceptional leadership and organizational skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation, policies and practices
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment under pressure
  • Able to maintain a professional demeanor under stressful situations
  • Experience in effective merchandising that drives sales
  • Have experience ordering and maintaining department stock
  • Flexibility to work a variety of hours which include days, evenings, weekends and stat holidays

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive physical tasks for extended periods of time
  • Job requires manual dexterity, attention to detail, handeye coordination
  • Walking and standing for extended periods including bending, twisting, crouching and kneeling at times
  • Physically lifting, twisting and handling up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Cold environment, which can be noisy with some strong odours
