JOB PURPOSE:

This position reports to the Production Manager - Kill Floor.

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations to ensure Conestoga Meat's production goals and targets are met by developing and implementing plans to improve productivity and ensuring that all machinery is working and/or coordinating preventative maintenance.

This role will work closely with the Production Manager to ensure that the Kill Floor is running smoothly and up to Conestoga's standards by coaching and providing feedback to employees, performing administrative functions such as reviewing budget and financial objectives.

This position must also promote Health & Safety and Food Safety and Conestoga's values.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS / ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees Production Activities

  • Develops daily production plan in conjunction with Product Manager and Procurement
  • Ensures all jobs on the line are filled on a daily basis
  • Ensures that daily production schedule for the line is completed
  • Ensures safe operation of equipment by coordinating preventative maintenance
  • Reviews yields and efficiencies and implements corrective actions for deficiencies
  • Reviews hourly line checks to ensure that all product is within specification and implements corrective actions for deficiencies
  • Develops plans for the improvement of production activities

Employee Relations Champion

  • Demonstrates company values in all activities and interpersonal relationships
  • Directs training of new employees
  • Assists production employees with any issues or concerns not resolved with lead hand
  • Reviews attendance records for the line and implements discipline as required
  • Implements employee discipline procedure for other issues as required
  • Develops lead hands by:
  • Providing training plan and opportunities
  • Mentoring lead hands on an ongoing basis
  • Providing periodic reviews 1 on 1's

Promotes Health & Safety

  • Is accountable for enforcement of company health and safety policies on the Kill Floor
  • Assists Lead Hands in reporting and documenting all health and safety incidents and ensures compliance with health and safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Health and Safety Manual including:
  • Requirement to use equipment, materials and machinery only as authorized and to follow procedures and wear protective equipment as outlined in the Health and Safety Manual
  • Requirement to identify and report any hazard(s) in their workplace
  • Requirement to report any accidents, injuries requiring first aid, health care, lost time injuries, occupational diseases or incidents
  • Oversees that all employees work in compliance with legislative requirements
  • Informs, trains, and supervises employees to follow work procedures
Oversees maintenance of safe and clean work environment


Coachee

  • Keep Production Manager
  • Kill Floor informed on all aspects of areas of responsibility
  • Meet regularly with Production Manager (11 process)
  • Develop and review personal development plan ensuring that it includes goals that support the key initiatives of the organization as well as personal development goals (catalytic coaching)

Promotes Food Safety / HACCP

  • Oversees that all production employees follow good manufacturing practices
  • Reviews monitoring and documentation of daily lead hand audits (i.e. Pre-Operational Inspections)
  • Ensures CFIA procedures are being followed i.e. HIP
  • Ensures all Humane Hog Handling procedures are being followed and employees are trained

Administration

  • Assists Production Manager
  • Kill Floor in development of production and expenditure budgets on an annual basis
  • Achieves financial objectives by monitoring results, analyzing results and initiating corrective actions
  • Reviews and authorizes weekly payroll
  • Ensures yield and labour targets on budget

Personal Development

  • Attend company required training
  • Remain current with technical knowledge in areas of responsibility
  • Attend regular 1:1 coaching/update sessions

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Demonstrated leadership capability with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills / team orientation
