    The Opportunity


We are currently seeking an
Occupational Hygiene Technician to join our
Glencore
Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.


The position will be based in Falconbridge, Ontario.

This is a full-time unionized position.

Work location is not accessible by public transportation.


Duties and Accountabilities:


Technician will anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and assists in recommending controls for all workplace hazards and risks that may affect the health of the workforce.

Part of a team that plays a key role in the implementation and maintenance of Site Management Hygiene systems. Develops and maintains occupational hygiene procedures and quality control programs. Performs, organizes, and co-coordinates plant hygiene projects and investigations. Reports results in writing and, in consultation with Supervisor, provides interpretations of results and recommendations.


The position has an in-depth working knowledge and understanding of core smelter processes to help develop preventative strategies and systems that not only benefit the internal environment but are also compatible with improving smelter productivity.

Education and Skills
In order to succeed in this role, the incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Must possess a minimum three-year technology diploma in chemistry, metallurgy, engineering or a related science.
  • A minimum of five years of technical, process or occupational hygiene experience is required.
  • Specific training or education in occupational hygiene is considered an asset.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of OHSA and WHMIS and thorough knowledge of the site working environment.
  • Must also have the knowledge and ability to use workplace monitoring equipment.
  • Must possess effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; must be motivated to increase knowledge in the field of occupational hygiene; requires proficiency in Microsoft office.
  • First Aid training is viewed as an asset.
