The Chippewas of the Thames First Nation and the Aamjiwnaang First Nation and Aecon formed the Aecon Three Fires ("A3F") joint venture to pursue utilities-related project opportunities across southwestern Ontario.

A3F will provide an Indigenous-led solution for a variety of utility construction work and associated support services.

To carry out work in these markets, A3F, by way of its constituent partners, will establish a primary facility in the local community and plans to employ an Indigenous-led workforce in construction and functional support roles, with Aecon providing training and capacity development.


Reporting to the Superintendent or Construction Manager, the General Foreperson will be responsible for ensuring that the Project is completed on schedule in compliance with the contract, and the job cost estimate and all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship.

Preference for this role will be given to individuals belonging to the Ojibway, Odawa, and Bodewadmi Nations.


What You'll Do Here:


  • Responsible for, or assists the Superintendent in, the overall planning and scheduling to ensure that the Project is constructed in a timely and costeffective manner.
  • Monitors the overall progress of the project and takes corrective action where necessary.
  • Coordinates and monitors the three main functions
  • Administration, Engineering and Construction.
  • Represents the Company with the owner.
  • Ensures that the Superintendent is being advised of all extra work and claims
  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring of the Company's Safety and Environment Policies and QC Plans.
  • Ensures that all functions and operations on the job are following local legislative requirements.
  • Directs and maintains discipline and morale of the project staff.
  • Ensures that Company policies and project procedures are being adhered to.
  • Ensures compliance with union agreements, if applicable.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Ensures new crew members are oriented to the job.
  • Assesses competency and capability of tradespersons; evaluating crew capability and benchmarking to others to ensure that the crew meets required levels of quality.
  • Communicates the job to and with the crew.
  • Assigns individual and crew tasks.
  • Coordinates on the job training for apprentices and facilitating mentoring of apprentices by journeymen.
  • Identifies other training needs for the crew and facilitating delivery of that training.
  • Sets and maintains work standards and outlining behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity.
  • Promotes, supports, and facilitates teamwork and harmony between all construction. crews by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all project crews, regardless of craft makeup.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Preference will be given to individuals belonging to the Ojibway, Odawa, and Bodewadmi Nations.
  • Technical school background or at least five years of construction experience.
  • Experience in Utility work (Telecommunications, Pipeline, Hydro, etc) would be an asset.
  • Experience in Concrete and Asphalt work be an asset.
  • GPI (Gas Pipeline Inspector) certification considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Required: walking, lifting, operating equipment, etc.
  • Ability to carry drawings and diaries as required.
  • Ability to use stairs, ladders and climb over rough terrain.
  • Ability to work long hours per day in sometimes rough weather conditions.
