Additional Details:


  • Working at the two outdoor pools during the outdoor pool season, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of swimmers and supervising the use of swimming and related recreation areas. This work involves supervising and coaching designated staff, assisting on deck with aquatic programs for all ages, responding to inquiries and complaints, and building rapport with customers. Other duties include performing various operational, janitorial and minor maintenance tasks.
  • This position will also have an opportunity to work at the new təməsew̓txw Aquatic and Community Centre, opening early Requirements and Skills:
  • You have a valid National Lifeguard (NL) Award.
  • You are Breaking Waves certified or hold a current Lifesaving Swim Instructor or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Award (with a transition course).
  • You hold a valid Emergency First Aid (EFA) certificate. If you do not hold an EFA certificate, you will need to take this certification once a position has been offered to you. The employer will pay for the course.
  • You can lead and supervise aquatic staff and conduct orientation and training sessions.
  • You can provide strong customer service to all patrons and rental users in the facility.
  • You have a positive and energetic approach to mentoring staff.
  • You can be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • You can effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • You have experience managing firstaid situations.
  • You have a working knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques.
  • You can support the running of recreational aquatic programs (Lessons, Leisure Swims, Aquafit and Rental Groups)
- *A minimum commitment of - 2 shifts per week as an Aquatic Leader is required.
