About the Opportunity

Under the guidance of Management, the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) collaborates with Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) team to handle various tasks related to testing phases. Responsibilities include specimen handling, data entry, preparation of materials, sterilization, clerical duties, and loading specimens. Other duties may involve supply management, troubleshooting, and customer service.

Accurate specimen management and positive patient identification are critical. Tasks vary depending on the lab's needs. The job may require shifts, weekends, and off-site work in LTC facilities or private homes. Interactions with stakeholders are also part of the role. Adherence to safety protocols and NSH/PLM policies is mandatory. MLAs must work independently, show good judgment, maintain professionalism, and provide excellent customer service.

About You

If you have the following, we want to hear from you:

Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
Completion of Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations with CSMLS registration
Strong communication skills
Basic medical terminology knowledge
Attention to detail
Manual dexterity
Accurate specimen handling
Adaptability to procedure updates
Basic computer skills, Meditech experience preferred
Access to reliable transportation
Competency in other languages, French is a plus

Hours

Casual Relief Position

Compensation and Incentives
$26.27 Hourly
