ABOUT YWCA TORONTO - PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS WOMEN IN TRADES AND TECHNOLOGY


YWCA Toronto's Pre-Apprenticeship Painter-Decorator, Terrazzo, Tile & Marble Setter and Architectural Glass and Metal Technician programs are skilled trades training programs to help women and gender diverse individuals overcome barriers to accessing the construction industry and enter traditionally male-dominated careers in the skilled trades.

The programs provide participants with trades training in a state-of-the-art facility, operated by the Finishing Trades Institute (FTI) and the Terrazzo, Tile and Marble School licensed for these trades in Ontario.

The objective of the Pre-apprenticeship programs, is to provide women and gender diverse individuals with well-remunerated career options and rectify current gender imbalances by increasing the presence of women in the skilled trades and the construction industry.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Customizes and cofacilitates the presentation delivery of group or oneonone information sessions about skilled trades programs to potential participants;
  • Processes and organizes all pertinent program and client files and documentation;
  • Provides information referral counselling for clients;
  • Maintains electronic and paper records of the type of workshops/information sessions delivered and the number of attendees;
  • Prepares statistical reports and analysis concerning the resources required by the general public, clients and employers' participation in the funder reports for Skilled Trades and Technology Programs;
  • Assists in preparing room setup and materials for clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Indepth knowledge of an academic or technical discipline normally acquired through completion of a community college diploma (e.g. business administration, commerce or related field). (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
  • 13 years directly related work experience;
  • Operates in an environment that has mínimal supervision, requires flexibility, adaptability and problemsolving skills;
  • Knowledge of and ability to trouble shoot computer hardware network connections;
  • Superior customer service, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Very strong organizational skills and detailoriented;
  • Ability to maintain a positive approach and a professional manner at all times;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and to meet multiple and deadlines;
  • Marketing experience is an asset;
  • Knowledge of another language an asset (e.g., Somali, Urdu, Hindi).

Note:
This a Full-Time, 30hours per week contract position for 8 weeks


Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicant must:
(1) Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;

(2) Have registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;

(3) Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person whom refugee protection has been conferred upon under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;

(4) Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant Provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
