    The City of Côte Saint-Luc is looking for dynamic employees to join its workforce. The City prides itself on providing the highest level of services to its residents. We are looking for a vibrant and energetic Library Technician who wants to work in the Max Margles Children's Library at the Youth Service Desk, to make a difference and improve the quality of services in Côte Saint-Luc. Possible Start Date: April 2024
    Possible End Date: August 2024
    *Possibility of continuing to pick up shifts after August 2024

    Schedule:
    • This is a part-time (21 hours) position with the possibility of picking up extra shifts.
    • Shifts will include one daytime (10 am to 6 pm) shift and two evening (1 pm to 9 pm) shifts.
    • One of the shifts, either daytime or evening, will be on the weekend.


    Key Responsibilities


    Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Respond to reference and reader's advisory questions while at the youth service desk and at the adult Reference service desk as necessary.
    • Participate in creation and implementation of children's or teen programming and services
    • Supervise employees and teen volunteers when needed
    • Oversee the library in the absence of a Manager or Librarian
    • Assist patrons with location of library material
    • Perform bibliographic searching
    • Catalogue new acquisitions and help maintain replacement copies and popular series in collaboration with Librarians
    • Assist patrons with their devices and technology questions regarding the library's digital collection
    • Support children and teens using the public computers by giving assistance when needed.
    • Aid in the creation of bibliographies, handouts and displays
    • Aid librarians in maintenance of collections of books, periodicals, newspapers, audiovisual and other materials including shelf reading
    • Help maintain the physical appearance of the library
    • Provide basic troubleshooting and assistance with library equipment including microform reader/printers, photocopiers, laptops, tablets and ereaders

    Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

    • Master's Degree in Library and Information Science or currently a student in the program or a DEC in Information and Library Technologies.
    • Candidates can expect to work a combination of daytime, evening, and weekend shifts
    • Basic knowledge of information services technology including the ability to use them
    • Internet and standard electronic reference resources.
    • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, applications software, and interfaces.
    • Ability to handle stressful situations and work in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent customer service and teamwork skills
    • Good problem-solving ability
    • Excellent oral communications in both English and French
    • Interest in reference and reader's advisory services and/or technology/digital learning
