    Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and in keeping with the philosophy of client-centered care while demonstrating respect for the traditional and individual values of residents and the community being served, the Continuing Care Worker assists residents with activities of daily living including eating, bathing, toileting, dressing, mobilization and recreation. The Continuing Care Worker provides interpreter and translator services to facilitate dialogue between residents and professional staff. The Continuing Care Worker also preforms delegated nursing procedures and therapeutic regimes to enable the residents to have an optimal quality of life.

    The Continuing Care Worker participates in and/or organizes the delivery of therapeutic programs and social activities; perform specialized tasks or activities such as rehabilitative exercises and palliative care when delegated; translate and interpret to facilitate dialogue between residents and professional staff; assist residents and families during admission by orientating them to the facility, introducing them to other residents and staff by answering or seeking answers to their questions; upon discharge or transfer, ensure residents belongings are packed; comply with facility policies and procedures including Workplace Occupational Health & Safety and Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures; record data appropriately, accurately, completely and in a timely manner to ensure clear and accurate resident records ensures all resident, family and program information, records and communication are treated with confidentiality; use telehealth to liaise with rehabilitation professionals and others; seek assistance and guidance when unable to safely perform care identified in the resident's care plan; perform a variety of custodial tasks to maintain a safe and homelike environment for residents and their families; advocate for residents; recognize own abilities and seek assistance/clarification when needed; attend in-service education in order to keep informed of new knowledge, skills and facility updates; seek opportunities for professional growth and enhancement of competencies; identify and report unsafe situations; and other duties as required.

    The incumbent should have current CPR and First Aid Certification and have Completed Grade 8. However, preference will be given to graduates from a Continuing Care Worker program or equivalent (Equivalencies may include: completion of first year BScN program, LPN's who have let their licenses lapse, etc.).

    This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

    The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
