Description

The HAT Peer Support Worker will provide hands on support to participants of the HAT program, using their shared mutual experiences to build quality working rapport.

They will work closely with the Hoarding Based Case Manager to engage with individuals to assist in the sorting and removal of household items as identified by the program participant in their home.

The Peer Support Worker will work closely with the Buried in Treasure Workshop Peer Facilitator as well as the HAT Coordinator to co-facilitate the Buried in Treasures workshop series as needed.


Main Duties

  • Provide support in decluttering of participant homes, including but not limited to garbage removal and preparation for pest treatment
  • Assist participants in accessing other decluttering or cleaning supports as needed
  • Provide input on case notes following all client interactions
  • Communicate information that could affect the safety and wellbeing of clients, program participants and staff, upon direction of Options Bytown staff or the HAT Coordinator
  • Participate in regular HAT team meetings
  • Collaborate with the Case Manager to provide physical decluttering support
  • Cofacilitate Buried in Treasures workshop series when required by the Coordinator
  • Other duties as required

Job Qualifications

  • Lived experience of any of the barriers faced by individuals living with housing precarity
  • Previous experience in leadership or mentoring is considered a strong asset
  • Complimentary training, education, and work experience are considered assets
  • Ability to converse in languages in addition to English is considered a strong asset

Suitability

  • Must be physically able to bend, lift, stand, and climb for an extended periods of time
  • Must be able to up to lift 20kg safely
  • Have a nonjudgmental and inclusive approach in a variety of situations
  • Be comfortable working in various settings including workshops and clients' homes, adhering to organizational health & safety policies
  • Must be conscious of pest management best practices and/or be willing to participate in training
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team
  • Willingness to travel between work locations using public transit or a personal vehicle
  • An awareness of the issues faced by individuals living with housing precarity
  • Sensitive to cultural differences, as demonstrated in practice
  • Ability to respect professional boundaries when working with program participants
  • Basic knowledge and experience working with computers
  • Be willing to debrief and check in regularly with the HAT Coordinator to support personal mental and emotional wellbeing

This position requires you to work at all Options Bytown locations, in the community and in individuals' homes. This means exposure to sometimes-harsh environments; smoke, pests, clutter, verbal abuse and other adverse conditions.

The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crises and potentially hostile situations.

Pay:
$25.27-$27.60 per hour

Expected hours: 8 per week
