    Sample Reception/ Shipping & Receiving

    Basic Purpose:

    Sample receipt, preparation of supplies and shipping related duties for all clients in support of the Sample Logistics Team. This position also includes various laboratory and administrative functions.

    Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

    • Greet all clients in a friendly, positive manner
    • Receive all client samples
    • Unpack samples and organize them according to analytical requirements
    • Sort, distribute, filter and preserve samples
    • Ensure client samples are entered into LIMS and approved in a timely manner according to sample holding time, test code, due date, and/or received date
    • Ensure all samples are redirected as required
    • Ensure supply inventories are maintained
    • Prepare bottle orders requests and coordinate delivery of bottle orders when needed
    • Label and/or dispense acid in bottles, when necessary, as per safety standards
    • Check the accuracy of bottles sorted to the bottle order
    • Pack bottles in coolers, ensuring sufficient packing materials and ice packs are provided as per Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations
    • Ensure the bottle order paperwork is included in the cooler
    • Seal cooler with packaging tape and ensure it is safe for transportation
    • Place all shipping labels on coolers as per TDG requirements
    • Separate all coolers as per delivery requirements
    • Ensure all coolers are clean and in good condition
    • Print and process bottle orders from LIMS to be shipped out to work sites in a timely and efficient manner
    • Prepare sample containers and supplied needed for sample collection, pack bottles in intermediate packaging as per TDG requirements
    • Receive all supplies and goods, unpack, verify shipping info and deliver to the designated lab drop-off area
    • Work with various couriers for pickup and delivery
    • Sorting/Disposing of soil and water samples that are due for disposal as per WI
    • Maintain stock of sampling containers/media
    • Maintain working area in a clean, safe and an organized manner
    • Provide support to the Sample Log In team
    • Ensure accuracy of results and data entry
    • Recognize routine and non-routine problems and escalate to the Supervisor
    • Proactively ensure overall satisfaction of regional client base including communication to project management and supervisor as appropriate
    • Monitor/Calibrate the temperatures of fridges, thermometers and temperature guns
    • Adhere to Bureau Veritas quality systems QA/QC, SOPs and external accreditation requirements
    • Adhere to Bureau Veritas safety policies
    • All other responsibilities as assigned

    Skills and Knowledge:

    • Technical Diploma
    • Experience in a laboratory environment is considered an asset
    • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
    • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
    • Ability to work independently as well as engage others when required in escalation of concerns to meet the client needs or to best manage client disappointments
    • Energetic and keen with a positive attitude who thrives in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking, prioritizing and adapting to changes are required
